Prince George Took On a Major Royal Duty for the First Time Ever

Prince George is just 12 years old, but he’s already preparing for his future role as king. On Saturday, George joined mom Kate Middleton at a Remembrance Day event for the very first time, marking a similar milestone to one that Prince William hit when he was George’s age. How is he growing up so fast?!

George attended an event at Royal Albert Hall.

Over the weekend, George joined the royals at the Festival of Remembrance ahead of the Remembrance Sunday services that were held on Sunday. William was unable to be there because of his Earthshot Prize responsibilities, and George stepped in to take over in his dad’s place.

“This evening, The King and Queen, The Princess of Wales, Prince George, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, attended the @RoyalBritishLegion’s Festival of Remembrance at the @RoyalAlbertHall, to honour all those who have lost their lives in conflict,” the royal family’s official Instagram account shared.

Prince William was the same age when he attended a Remembrance Day event for the first time.

One of William’s first formal events as a royal took place when he was 12, too — and it was for a very similar cause. He joined parents then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana at the Heads of State Victory in Europe Remembrance Service in honor of VE Day in May 1995. Looks like Will and Kate decided George was ready at the same age!

Will and Kate have always wanted to introduce George to his future responsibilities slowly.

A royal insider told People that Will and Kate have planned to include George in royal duties very gradually as he gets older.

“It’s a slow game, and it gets him used to it on the couple’s terms rather than anybody else’s,” the source said.

It makes sense — they’ve never been ones to mess around when it comes to their children and raising them the way they choose.

People were so happy to see George at the event.

In the comments on Will and Kate’s Instagram post from the event, followers cheered George on as he thrived while taking on his new responsibility.

“You can see how proud Catherine is of George,” one person wrote.

Another commented, “It’s beautiful how the Royal Family always honor the veterans and are there to pay their respects and it was really lovely to see Prince George attending the festival for the very first time,” adding clapping emojis.
