Prince Harry Mentioned Lilibet’s Red Hair Just Before Sharing New Family Photo

Because red hair is a recessive trait, many fans of the royal family expected Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children to have their mom’s dark hair. But against all odds, Archie and Lilibet both turned out to be redheads like their dad — and now that we’ve seen an updated photo of the kids this week, we know that their hair hasn’t faded one bit as they’ve grown! Funnily enough, just before the Sussexes released their 2024 Christmas card, Harry spoke about Lili’s fiery locks.

Meghan and Harry released their 2024 holiday card on Monday.

Among the six photos included on the card was one that featured the family of four — a very rare sight. In the image, Archie and Lili are running into their parents’ outstretched arms. Although we can’t see their faces in the photo, it’s very clear to see that they both have the same blazing red hair their dad does.

Harry recently spoke about his daughter's hair.

As People pointed out, while talking to Hello! magazine at the WellChild Awards in September, Harry mentioned that Lili has Meghan’s long, thick hair (even if the color is all him).

“Archie and Lili have been blessed with their mother’s thick hair, he told us, self- effacingly, as he marvelled that it won’t be long until Lili can sit on hers,” the magazine’s chief content officer, Sophie Vokes-Dudgeon, said.

That wasn't the only time that Harry has brought up his daughter's hair.

During a 2023 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Harry said his children had inherited their hair from his mom’s side of the family, and apparently, Princess Diana‘s genes weren’t messing around!

“The Spencer gene is very, very strong,” Harry said on the show. “I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong! Go gingers.”

The choice not to feature the children's faces on the card seems to be an intentional one.

After all, Meghan and Harry have always been firm when it comes to protecting their children’s privacy, and this occasion is no different.

“Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats,” a friend of the couple told People earlier this year. “He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm.”

It's good to see Lili and Archie again.

Now that Archie is 5 and Lilibet is 3, Meghan and Harry are almost solidly out of the little kid years, and they must be having so much fun with their kiddos — especially now that they have the privacy they’d been unable to find in the UK. Here’s hoping we get another update on this adorable family soon!
