Since Meghan Markle joined Instagram, she seems to be sharing more and more photos of her kids, and Princess Lilibet’s fifth birthday was no exception. In honor of Lili hitting the milestone on June 4, Meghan shared new photos of her daughter with her followers, but apparently, she didn’t have her husband’s blessing before she posted it. Now, Prince Harry is reportedly “privately raging” that Meghan isn’t keeping their children out of the spotlight.
Meghan’s birthday post for Lili gave us the closest look at her daughter yet.
“Our dream girl. Happy 5th birthday, Lili,” Meghan wrote in the caption, adding a white heart emoji.
Her post included two new photos of Lilibet, who is named after her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. One shows her in the middle of a hug with both of her parents, and if you swipe over, you’ll see Lili by herself, standing barefoot in a garden.
Like her dad (and big brother, Archie), Lili’s red hair is brighter than ever. She really has grown up so much!
Harry reportedly isn’t happy with the move.
Lili’s face is still pretty obscured in these new pictures, but a report from Radar Online claims that Harry still isn’t happy that Meghan made the post — not that he’s going to say anything to his wife about it. Instead, he’s “privately raging” about it, according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe.
“There’s every chance that Harry might be allowing it through gritted teeth. He knows what it’s like being a child in the public eye, and he doesn’t want that for his kids,” Larcombe said. “But I think we know who wears the trousers in the relationship. It will make Harry pretty uneasy, given what we know and what he’s said in the past.”
He also mentioned that this is a departure for Meghan, who has been outspoken about protecting children’s privacy online.
“She hasn’t suggested you can’t post pictures of your children, but you would think as a campaigner, the last thing she would want to do is get her own children’s faces out there in the public eye,” he said.
All good points, but if this is true, has Harry considered that these are actually also his children and he can speak up about their presence on social media at any time?
Meghan might be trying to make Lili part of her ‘brand.’
Larcombe also suspects that Meghan might be sharing more and more of Lili so that she can become part of the “brand” she’s creating for herself in her post-royal life.
“It seems to promote Meghan, it’s all about Meghan,” he said. “She’s in most of the pictures. You wonder whether it’s Meghan having to make sacrifices because things haven’t gone well for them.”
Considering how much Meghan and Harry have emphasized their desire for privacy after walking away from royal life, Meghan sharing the kids so much does appear to be a departure from their original game plan. So what changed?
