Prince Harry Speaks Out About King Charles’ Cancer Diagnosis for the First Time

This year has gotten off to a rough start for the royal family, especially when it comes to King Charles' current health battle. After he was diagnosed with cancer, Prince Harry rushed to the United Kingdom from the US to be by his side, and now, for the first time, Harry is speaking out about his dad's diagnosis. It sounds like right now, being with his family is a priority to him — but his family isn't just the royals.

Harry spoke about his dad's health crisis in a segment on 'Good Morning America.'

Prince Harry is in Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025's One Year to Go celebration, and there, he spoke with ABC News reporter Will Reeve about what happened when he found out that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.

"I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could," he said.

Harry feels grateful he was able to get to his dad so quickly.

"Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that," he said.

Though he declined to share any specifics about how Charles is doing right now, he said that the news could "absolutely" help him unify with the royal family again. "Throughout all these families, I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together," he explained.

Right now, his priority isn't *just* his family back in the UK. though.

"I have my own family, as we all do. My family and my life in California is as it is. I've got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can," he said.

It's true — he's a husband to Meghan Markle and dad to two young children who need him, too.

Harry's visit with Charles was short.

As he mentioned in the new interview, the Duke of Sussex made a quick visit to his father immediately after Charles made the news of his diagnosis public. He spent just 24 hours in his home country before returning to California, his home base with Meghan and the kids.

"That is good. Hopefully [Harry] will bring the grandchildren at some point too, as that would be lovely for all of them," a source told People at the time.

Charles' most recent health update was a positive one.

We don't know much about what kind of cancer the king is battling, but we do know that he has already started treatment — and that he is thankful for all the support he's received so far.

"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world," he shared in an Instagram post last week. "My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience."
