With the release of Prince Harry's memoir just days away, excerpts from the book are beginning to leak — and this one is quite a bombshell. Apparently, Prince William physically attacked Harry during an argument they had over Meghan Markle in 2019. We never imagined things had gotten this bad between the royal brothers.
Harry claims he and William got into a row that left him visibly injured.
According to a leak of the book published by The Guardian, Harry and William were in the kitchen of Nottingham Cottage sometime in 2019 when William used words such as "abrasive," "difficult," and "rude," which led Harry to accuse him of feeding into the press' narrative about his wife.
When Harry realized this conversation wasn't going anywhere productive, he gave his brother a glass of water, saying, "Willy, I can't speak to you when you're like this."
William struck quickly with a physical attack.
"He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor," Harry writes in the book. "I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out."
Whoa.
William wanted Harry to fight back, but he refused.
At that point, it sounds like William was finally able to come to his senses and realize how inappropriate his behavior had been, because he apologized to Harry and left.
But not, of course, before he said, "You don't need to tell Meg about this."
Of course, Harry did tell Meghan about what happened.
Even if he hadn't wanted to, it sounds like he didn't have much choice: He had "scrapes and bruises" on his back from where he'd fallen on the dog bowl.
Harry writes that Meghan "wasn't that surprised, and wasn't all that angry. She was terribly sad."
Things between Harry and William seem so much worse than we imagined.
Of course, the Harry & Meghan docuseries on Netflix didn't exactly paint a happy picture of Harry's relationship with his family today, but now, it sounds like the situation is even bleaker than he let on.
