Prince William Is Totally Against the Idea of Prince Harry’s Kids Ever Becoming Working Royals

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided the royal life just isn’t for them, but what if their kids, Archie and Lilibet, feel differently about it? That’s a possibility that they’re planning for, according to recent reports … but what they can’t plan for is whether or not Prince William, who will likely be the king at that point in the future, will allow it to happen.

Earlier this month, a report from The Guardian claimed that Harry wanted his children to be able to retain the royal titles that became rightfully theirs at birth so that when they are old enough, they can choose whether they want to remain in the US or become working royals. After all, just because the Duke of Sussex wants to distance himself from his royal relatives doesn’t mean that Archie and Lili will want the same.

But it stands to reason that they’d only get to join The Firm if their uncle William signed off on it, and a source close to the Prince of Wales doesn’t believe that’s likely.

The insider told The Sunday Times‘ royal editor Roya Nikkhah that there is “bemusement in royal circles” at the idea that Archie and Lili would ever work as part of the royal family, adding that it’s “unlikely” that it would happen.

The sources who spoke to the outlet also offered an update on William and Harry’s feud, and it doesn’t seem like it’s getting any better. Still, William seems to be healing from their fractured relationship in his own way, even if that hasn’t included making amends with his brother (at least, not yet).

“What has struck me the most recently is that he just doesn’t mention it at all,” a friend of William’s said. “It used to be that the family stuff was taking up a lot of space in his head, it was a very close relationship and he was very upset. But he’s not letting it get to him at all any more. It is a change. It’s sad, but it’s a much healthier space for him to be at.”

But when it comes to any official word on what the future might hold for Harry and Meghan’s kids, it sounds like that’s not happening — now or maybe ever.

“We do not comment on private issues pertaining to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children,” a spokesperson for Harry told People.

As far as we can tell, Archie and Lili seem perfectly happy with their lives as non-royal kids; they certainly seem happy enough in the photos and videos that Meghan shares on social media, anyway. Who knows? They might grow up and want nothing to do with the royals, but only time will tell.
