Prince William Was One of the Only People Who Checked on Andrew Amid Epstein Controversy

Andrew obviously has caused a lot of problems for the royal family, and Kind Charles seemingly reached a breaking point in 2025 due to Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. At the end of October 2025, Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew would be stripped of his titles and evicted from his royal residence. Although members of the royal family have clearly tried to distance themselves from Andrew, that doesn’t mean they’ve cut all contact.

According to a new book, Prince William actually reached out to Andrew to “offer condolences” when he lost his titles.

Prior to this new report, everyone thought Prince William advocated against Andrew.

It’s not even a recent thing. Back when people were talking about Andrew’s suspicious relationship with Epstein in 2019, William reportedly wanted Andrew “to be banished,” according to royal author Russell Myers. The author claimed, “William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC ‘Newsnight’ interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.” Even at that point, he allegedly wanted Andrew “out of the picture.”

Then, when the controversy and allegations made headlines again last year, William was thought to be a “driving force” behind Andrew’s exit from the royal family.

But apparently, William approached the issue differently in private.

Reports suggest that William thought Andrew could no longer be a working royal. However, according to author Robert Hardman, William acted less distant in private. In his new book, titled “Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story,” Hardman wrote, “Some accounts suggested that he was the driving force behind his Uncle Andrew being stripped of his titles and honors and banished to a house on the Sandringham estate,” per Marie Claire.

At the same time, a friend of Andrew’s told the author that William still acted kind and supportive when interacting with Andrew. The source claimed that Prince William reached out to Andrew when he lost his titles to “offer condolences.” He was reportedly “one of the few people” to do so, and Andrew was “very touched” by the gesture.

Andrew has denied the allegations against him. Three months after he was told he had to leave his royal residence, he officially moved out, People reported. As members of the royal family publicly distance themselves from Andrew, a few others have privately remained in touch with him. Per Page Six, both Princess Anne and Prince Edward have been in contact with him.

William and Kate Middleton were said to be “deeply concerned” about the Epstein files, which Andrew is mentioned in.

When the couple publicly reacted to the Epstein files (and, indirectly, Andrew’s relationship with Epstein), they tried to make it clear that they were centering the victims. In February 2026, William and Kate reacted to the newly-released Epstein files via their spokesperson.

“I can confirm The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations,” the spokesperson told reporters at the time, per Page Six. “Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.” Prior to this, they avoided publicly commenting on Epstein and Andrew, according to the publication.
