Kate Middleton continues to lay low while recovering from the major abdominal surgery she underwent last month, so she still hasn't been seen since the Christmas holidays – and now, fans who are convinced this whole situation is a bit suspicious have another reason they can add to their list. On Tuesday, Prince William backed out of attending his godfather's memorial service due to "personal matters," which only fueled the speculation around the royals even more.

Prince William was expected to attend a service for King Constantine of Greece on Tuesday.
King Constantine, who died in January 2023, was the last king of Greece — along with being Prince William's godfather and second cousin. Knowing this, it was truly surprising that Will backed out, especially without much of an explanation from palace officials.
Instead, they simply noted that it was a "personal matter" without sharing other details.
A small update on Kate was shared at the same time.
According to what a palace source said (via CNN), William called the late king's family himself to tell them that he wouldn't be able to make it to the memorial and that Kate "continues to be doing well."
The public remains in the dark about what kind of surgery she had and why she needs so long to recover.
People have a few theories about what might be going on.
Although some people were worried that it could have to do with King Charles' recent cancer diagnosis, it seems that's not the case. Queen Camilla was seen attending the memorial, along with other members of the royal family, including Prince Andrew and Princess Anne.

It could have something to do with Kate.
The fact that Kate hasn't been seen at all since before her surgery already hasn't been sitting well with royal watchers. And with such little information coming with the news of Will's cancellation, some are becoming even more concerned.
"What is going on with that family? Why is Prince William cancelling engagements? He already doesn’t do very much. Kate Middleton was in full glam doing photo ops hours after giving birth but can’t be seen for months now? Hmm …" one person tweeted.
