As one of the most famous couples on the planet, Prince William and Kate Middleton have probably resigned to the fact that there are always going to be rumors about their relationship. And after they were plagued by separation reports earlier this year, people are dissecting their every move, including a rather awkward kiss between them at the Royal Charity Polo Cup over the weekend.
Kate almost always cheers William on at the annual polo match.
Every year, William competes in the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026, and as People pointed out, this is the 15th year he’s taken part in the tradition. Usually, Kate is there to cheer him on, but she hasn’t been in attendance since 2023 — likely because of her health issues and chemotherapy treatment.
This time around, she was there and looking stylish in a new black and white gingham sundress. She was there to watch the match and the awards ceremony that took place afterwards, and though she and William don’t often engage in PDA, they made an exception this time, kissing each other on the cheek.
Their kiss leaves a lot to be desired by some people.

Obviously, Will and Kate weren’t about to get all hot and heavy right there on the polo field, but after videos of their kiss have gone viral online, many people are convinced that these two have absolutely zero chemistry.
“I mean he could have spared a hand to hug her in the photo. He barely looked at her for half a second. Her whole demeanor changed,” one person commented on a TikTok video of the moment.
“That is not a kiss. No warmth, no chemistry no love,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “that’s how I am greeting relatives I see once a year at a family function.”
Some think it’s proof that they actually are separated.
In January, a video of Princess Charlotte and Prince George seemingly arriving at Kensington Palace with overnight bags and just their dad had some people speculating that Will and Kate were living separately. As far as the public is concerned, though, all is well between these two — but this new footage has only sparked more speculation on Reddit.
“As I said in another post, Antarctica is warmer than William and Kate,” one person wrote.
There were also jokes being cracked about their close coparenting relationship… except they shouldn’t look like coparents, they should look like a married couple.
Maybe they just feel uncomfortable smooching in public after it’s been taboo for the royals for so long? Or maybe they are secretly split up, and aren’t playing the role of loving husband and wife very well anymore. We may never know which is the truth.
