Prince William & Kate Middleton Have Their Own Version of ‘Heated Rivalry’ Happening

Anyone who’s followed along with the royals for a while already know that Prince William and Kate Middleton tend to have a bit of a competitive streak. Sometimes, that comes out in a playful way when they take on athletic activities during their joint engagements, and other times, it means they may not be rooting for the same team. That was definitely the case on Saturday, when two rugby teams they are each patrons of went head-to-head at the Men’s Six Nations Championship.

Both Wales and England competed in the championship.

In a since-expired Instagram Stories post shared by Will and Kate’s official account, the couple shared their well wishes for both teams, Wales and England. Will has been a patron of the Welsh Rugby Union in 2016, while Kate took over as patron of England’s Rugby Football Union in 2022 — a job that previously belonged to Prince Harry before he stepped down from his position as a senior royal.

“Wishing the best of luck to Wales and England Rugby as they go head-to-head at Twickenham today in the Men’s Six Nations Championship,” their post said (via PureWow). “As patrons of both unions respectively…May the best team win!”

Kate has worked regularly with the Rugby Football League for a few years now.

When Kate took over the Rugby Football Union patronage, she also became a patron of the Rugby Football League, which she just recently visited at the end of January, sharing photos from the event on Instagram. She learned about the club’s community programs for people of all ages while visiting the Wakefield Trinity RLFC

“A pleasure to support the Rugby Football League as Patron and see how rugby league is creating opportunities for everyone to thrive, both on and off the pitch,” Kate wrote in the caption of the post.

There has always been a bit of competitiveness between Kate and Will.

But as two people who love sports, is it really that surprising that part of their personalities would come out from time to time?

In January, the couple really made their competitiveness known when they visited the National Curling Academy in Stirling, Scotland. As multiple outlets including People reported, Will and Kate each got their chance to show their stuff on the ice. Kate won, but she’d have the edge here anyway. She was in a dress!
