We might still be days away from Halloween, but it sounds like Prince William and Kate Middleton are already thinking ahead to the Christmas season. According to what a palace insider told the Daily Beast this week, the Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly planning a “rival Christmas party,” offering a far more laid-back holiday celebration than the ones the royals have been a part of in the past.

Things are going to be very different this year.

Normally, the family gets together at Sandringham for a rather formal affair, but with King Charles’ cancer battle still ongoing, a source says that their extended family members haven’t made solid plans. Normally, the invites have been made at this point, but this year, they’re taking a “wait and see” approach.
Will and Kate are reportedly planning a more 'middle class' holiday.
This could mean that certain longstanding traditions will change — especially since Kate isn’t a huge fan of the way the royals open all of their presents on Christmas Eve, rather than on Christmas morning.
Kate would reportedly prefer to hang out with her side of the family.

It’s not surprising to hear that, after undergoing chemotherapy this year, Kate wants to be with her parents during the holidays this year — something that William doesn’t seem to be objecting to. In fact, the source said that he is “enthusiastic about embracing Kate’s much more normal conception of Christmas.”

The source called it a 'Christmas coup.'
“It’s always been a slightly covert, rival Christmas party at their house, but it’s going to be much more obvious this year,” they said. “If they post pictures, it’ll be an official coup attempt.”
Well, we could all use a little excitement from the royals on Christmas, right?
The Sandringham walk is supposed to continue as planned, though.

One Christmas tradition that isn’t going anywhere: The walk the royals take when they go to church on Christmas morning, greeting the public who waits to say hello and wish them a happy holiday. So coup or no coup, we should see photos of all of the usual suspects in their Christmas best.
And as for the rest? Well, we’ll be waiting for evidence of Will and Kate’s chill celebration …
