Prince William Made a Rare Mention of Prince Harry in Conversation With Eugene Levy

Prince William appeared on Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveler series on Apple TV+ this week, and in the process, he gave fans a rare glimpse at the way he feels about being part of the monarchy. During one moment of his conversation with Eugene, William even mentioned Prince Harry — an even rarer occurrence since the brothers have been feuding.

The topic of William and Harry’s childhood growing up in the royal family came up when William was talking about making sure that his oldest son, Prince George, will be happy with the way he leaves things for him when it’s his turn to be king someday.

“Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better,” William said. “That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up with — and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”

Harry has talked about the more difficult parts of his childhood far more openly than William has — particularly in his memoir, Spare. For William to admit that not everything was perfect with the royal family when he was a child seems to be a big step.

William also shared that he hopes to “change” things in the monarchy for the good of his children, since in the future, they will be working royals in a similar capacity to the way that he and wife Kate Middleton are now.

“Change for good,” he said. “And I embrace that and I enjoy that change — I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, is the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”

And when it comes to William’s own time as king, he said that he plans to remain “genuine” in the role.

“And then you can attach whatever labels and kind of roles that come on top of that, but if I’m not true to myself, and I’m not true to what I stand for and believe in — then it doesn’t really matter who you are, it gets lost,” he added. “I take my roles and my responsibilities seriously, but it’s important, like I said to you earlier, you don’t feel they own you — you have to own them.”
