It’s hard to believe that nearly six years after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to walk away from royal life forever, the feud between the Sussexes and the royals is still going strong. But at this point, it’s obvious that people on both sides of the equation can truly hold a grudge.
However, King Charles‘ resolve against his youngest son’s wife may be slipping, and that’s something that his oldest son is really struggling with, according to a new report.
Meghan’s father recently experienced another health crisis.
Meghan and her father, Thomas Markle, have been at odds going all the way back to her 2018 wedding to Harry, and though the two seem to have been estranged for years at this point, her dad’s health issues recently opened the lines of communication between them.
After Thomas underwent emergency surgery to have his leg amputated earlier this month, a spokesperson confirmed to People that Meghan had “reached out” to him as soon as she heard about the situation, though she did have to email him to be able to get in touch with him because the phone number she had for him was no longer connected.
Charles is “genuinely upset” for her.
A royal insider told the National Examiner that Charles has a “soft spot” for Meghan and has been worried about her after hearing what happened to her dad. They might not be on the best of terms these days, but Charles reportedly still keeps a framed photo of the moment he walked Meghan down the aisle at her wedding on his desk.
“Despite everything that’s happened Charles has not turned his back on Meghan,” the insider said. “The more time goes by the more empathy he seems to feel for her.”
A lot of baggage still exists between Charles and Meghan, but “he still believes she has a good heart.”
They added, “He wants peace, not just with Harry but Meghan too, and he’s quietly applying pressure from the top to make that happen.”
William sees the situation quite differently, though.
And apparently, Charles’ wife is also siding with Will on this one.
“This is not going down well with William or Camilla, they’re flabbergasted and saying he’s being way too naïve. They feel strongly that it’s asking for trouble to open the door to her,” the source said.
So who is on Charles’ side? Kate Middleton, who “respects how important this is to him.”
“Charles understands there are big feelings about this all around, but he hopes that, in time, everyone can find it in themselves to lower the temperature,” the insider said.
Only time will tell if Charles ends up getting his way on this one!
