25 Reasons Princess Charlotte Is a Mini Fashion Star in the Making

Princess Charlotte comes from a long line of royal fashionistas — including Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. It's in her genes to be a budding fashion star, so we're starting to see her sense of style emerge. She may only be 7 years old, but she's already dressing herself in some seriously chic outfits.

In the early days, her fashion sense could mostly be credited to the Duchess of Cambridge, since Charlotte was too young to be picking out her own outfits. But now that she's older, we're going to see more of her own personal style come through. Based on what we've witnessed so far, she's following right in Kate and Diana's fashionable footsteps.

Already Into the Menswear Trend

Charlotte is already on the menswear train, just like her Aunt Meghan Markle — in this case, literally, because Charlotte wore this blue sweater that was once her older brother Prince George's. He previously wore it for a photo shoot with Queen Elizabeth for her 90th birthday, and then Charlotte totally rocked the look in this Christmas card snapshot.

Learning Color-Coordination From the Best

Kate is big into dressing her family all in the same color palette. Charlotte has grown up watching her mom coordinate everyone's outfits, and so the young princess has a big head start on the color-matching part of the fashion game.

Getting the Monochrome Look Down

Prince William has said that pink is Charlotte's favorite color, and we're not at all surprised. She looks so adorable in this all-pink outfit that, admittedly, her mom probably picked out for her first birthday portraits. But if Charlotte had been old enough to choose her clothes herself, she might still have gone with the monochromatic pink look. It's a winner.

Selling Out Clothes

The sign of a true budding fashionista is that everyone wants to dress just like her. Charlotte can already check that box. For instance, when she wore this pretty blue dress to go visit baby Prince Louis in the hospital in 2018, it sold out in all sizes in record time. The princess is the definition of an influencer.

Dress Up Without Spending a Lot

It's easy for someone to look good when they can spend a lot of money on an outfit. The real fashionista challenge is dressing up on a budget. Compared to the Duchess of Cambridge's wardrobe, her children wear more modestly priced items that fall more in the $50-$100 range. Obviously, that's still more than most people spend on a piece of clothing for their kids, but it's definitely less expensive than anything in Kate's closet. This seersucker dress that Charlotte wore in 2019 cost $65, and she looked so cute in it.

Worth More Money Than George

Because she's become a fashion icon — and everyone wants to buy what she wears — Charlotte's monetary value has skyrocketed. Her brother, George, is worth about $3.5 billion to the British economy, while Charlotte is worth an estimated $5 billion — all because moms everywhere want their kids to look like a princess.

Sometimes, royal fashion bloggers are unable to find the designers or brands behind Charlotte's cute dresses. Hello! reported that they could be bespoke items, meaning that they were created specifically for the princess. Charlotte has definitely made it in the fashion world if she's getting custom clothing as a young child.

Carrying Iconic Accessories

At a polo match in 2019, Charlotte brought along a little, fuzzy unicorn purse. (We are obsessed with it!) Every style icon has a signature bag, and we hope Charlotte carries this one around with her for a while. It's so much more fun than Kate's classic clutches.

Chic in Sunglasses

Speaking of accessories, another polo match gave Charlotte a chance to break out the kid-sized sunnies. Hers seem to be pink and patterned just like her dress, showing off those early coordination skills. And because her mom is a big fan of sunglasses, too, we're not surprised that the little princess is totally pulling them off.

Matching With Princess Diana

Before Charlotte, and before Kate, there was Princess Diana. She was one of the first major style icons to come from the royal family, and her fashion legacy endures today. That's why it was so cool to see Charlotte rock a houndstooth dress for her fifth birthday portraits. Houndstooth was one of Diana's favorite fabric patterns, and she wore it often.

Unafraid of a Statement Piece

A birthday portrait for William featured Charlotte in one of her most daring outfits to date: overalls with embroidered flamingos and zebras. Embroidery is so in right now — as are overalls — so she's hitting two trends at once with this statement piece. She's not afraid to take a fashion risk, that's for sure.

Her Clothes Are More Searched for Than Kate's

When Charlotte wore this darling sheep sweater in 2017, the internet just had to have it. An eBay spokesperson told the Daily Mail at the time that the sweater "sparked the biggest percentage increase in searches for an item of clothing worn by any royal." (That's right, any royal.) Charlotte dethroned her mom as the royal whose clothes people care the most about.

Not only is she up on the embroidery and overalls trends, but in 2019, the princess was all about the sweater-over-a-skirt trend. Influencers everywhere were putting chunky knits over flowy skirts for a fun texture contrast, and Charlotte was right there with them in her fourth birthday photos.

Bold Coat

It's easy to buy a black coat (or a navy coat) that will go with everything, but Charlotte's not about easy when it comes to her sense of style. She wore this bold red coat for her first day of school in 2018, and we love that. Her first impression would have been a total splash in a coat this cool.

Pops of Color

Even when Charlotte does wear a more muted color — like with this black coat — she still knows the importance of a good pop of color. (Or, her mom does, but we bet that Charlotte is picking up on all of Kate's outfit choices for her.) For Christmas mass in 2016, Charlotte had red tights and a red hair bow to coordinate with Kate's look (and to help her style stand out against her dark coat).

Stylish Even in Uniform

School uniforms are kind of designed not to be stylish, since they're a way to keep kids from getting distracted by who is wearing what. Still, Charlotte has a way of making the navy and red outfit still look totally fashion-forward. She gets that ability to wear anything and make it look good from her mom.

Adorable Headpiece

Part of British formal style is that women wear hats or fascinators or other headpieces like headbands. Charlotte will likely attend plenty of fancy events as she grows up in royal society, so it's a good thing that she's already getting used to doing so. She rocked this flower headband at her Aunt Pippa Middleton's wedding, and it's a good sign of her headpieces to come.

Charlotte Enjoys the Finer Things

Imagine this picture, but with Charlotte wearing a tiara. According to Us Weekly, the princess reportedly loves playing royal dress-up. "Charlotte knows she is a princess and already has a toy tiara, which she loves wearing," a source claimed. We honestly can't wait until the day she gets to wear one for real.

Picking Out Her Own Clothes

The same Us Weekly article reported that Charlotte loves to dress herself. The source claimed: "She feels so grown up now. She likes to pick out her own outfits with Kate's help, and if she doesn't like a dress she's wearing, she makes her feelings known."

Signature Style

The Sun reported that Charlotte already has a signature style — much like how Kate does with her coatdresses and sleek pumps. Charlotte's is floral dresses with puffed sleeves and shoes to match — and if it's cold, a coordinating cardigan. Obviously, her style could change as she grows up, but she's certainly making a space for herself in the fashion world already.

She Looks Good in Stripes

Much like her mom, Charlotte pulls off the stripes quite well (and how adorable are those braided pigtails?). The Peter Pan collar on this dress really pulls the whole look together — this is actually something we could see Kate wearing herself.

Master of the Statement Coat

Kate has been known for her extensive collection of coats throughout her time as a royal, and it sounds like Charlotte is already poised to follow in her footsteps. During the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, Charlotte wore this blue coat over her dress, looking adorably put together.

Down to the Fun Details

At 2022's edition of Trooping the Colour, Charlotte once again looked beautiful in blue when she wore this dress with flowy sleeves and a fun bow detail on the shoulder. That's the benefit of children's fashion, after all — we're not sure Kate would try to get away with a bow like this!

Looking Good in Gingham

When Charlotte posed with her family for their 2021 Christmas card, she did not come to play — then again, does she ever when it comes to her style? She looked adorable in this gingham dress, wearing sneakers and letting her hair flow free to remind us that she's definitely still a kid!

Red Carpet Cute

When Charlotte walked the red carpet in December 2020 for an event with her family, she kept it classy and cute — no glam here — though at her age, it's definitely not necessary. Plaid is a pattern that has always looked good on this mini fashionista, after all.
