A royal insider named Grant Harrold, who worked for the royal family between 2004 and 2011, noticed the “hugely symbolic” meaning behind the brooch Camilla wore as she arrived in the United States, per Unilad.
Grant told Unilad that the brooch, which is a sparkly UK flag and US flag intertwined at the bottom, was actually given to the late Queen Elizabeth II by a New York mayor, and she was likely hoping to send a clear message to Trump about the couple’s intentions during their visit.

Grant Harrold further explained that these types of style choices are never just a last minute decision. “This is very much an act of diplomacy. These things are never a coincidence or an accident, everything is carefully planned,” he explained.
The royal insider explained to Unilad that the brooch itself works to show the “two countries in the union” and hopefully helps protect that “Special Relationship” they’re said to have.
