It’s no secret that Queen Camilla was believed to be the villain behind Princess Diana and the then-Prince Charles’ divorce after her affair with him was made public, but if this new report is true, she hasn’t changed her ways since then. One royal insider claims that Camilla had a “twisted” plot to make sure Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton would constantly be feuding, using the ladies as pawns in her mission to gain the public’s favor.
Camilla reportedly wanted to use Meghan and Kate’s ongoing squabble to keep herself out of the headlines.
As the insider told In Touch Weekly, “Camilla is always looking out for herself first.”
“Kate and Meghan made good targets,” the source continued. “Quite simply, if the princesses were constantly at war, then anything negative out there about her and Charles would be of limited interest. Kate and Meghan never had a chance.”
Her plot dates back to the famous bridesmaids dress debacle.
In his memoir, Spare, Harry wrote that Camilla was the one who leaked the (false) story that Meghan had made Kate cry, and though Kate acknowledged right away that it was actually the other way around, it was too late. The story was out, and it had made its way to a member of the royals’ PR team after Prince William told Camilla and Charles what happened over dinner.
“It was the most gung-ho member of Pa’s comms team, a true believer who’d devised and launched a new campaign of getting good press for Pa and Camilla at the expense of bad press for [me and William],” Harry wrote in his book, per Vanity Fair.
Camilla’s supposed master plan obviously worked.
As we know now, Kate and Meghan never ended up being the close sisters-in-law that the world hoped they’d be, and now, they live on entirely different continents. And in the process, the insider said, Camilla became “universally beloved,” just like she always wanted.
“They definitely had their issues, but the animosity snowballed because of all the negative stories out there. Harry started accusing William of leaking things as well,” the source said.
Fortunately, the damage done between Kate and Meghan may not be permanent.
After all, the insider pointed out to the news outlet, Kate and Meghan do “have a lot in common.” But all may not be lost: After Kate’s battle with cancer, she is reportedly more open than ever to mending fences.
“She’s so full of gratitude these days, and in her view, no one should waste time holding grudges. She is more than willing to make peace with Meghan – and Meghan is very much on the same page,” the source added.
