As hard as it is to imagine the British monarchy without Queen Elizabeth at the helm, one day, it will be Prince Charles' turn to rule as king, and before we know it, Prince William will be stepping up himself, making Kate Middleton the Queen Consort. And though we've only known her as the Duchess of Cambridge so far, there's no doubt that Kate will make a great queen who Queen Elizabeth would certainly be proud of.
We've seen Kate grow from a regular college classmate who caught William's eye to the fiancée of the future king, and now, a duchess, wife, and mom. Though the life she's living today as part of the royal family is likely very different than when she was growing up as the daughter of Michael and Carole Middleton, she's truly excelled at the role.
It will be a while before Will is called to step up to the throne, but when he does, we know Kate will be prepared to reign beside him. Read on for all of the reasons why we already know Kate will make a wonderful queen in the future. We can't wait to see it!
She Has Royal Style Down
It wasn't long before Kate became a royal style icon — people still talk about her wedding dress to this day! Not only is she a total trendsetter, but she also follows all the royal beauty and style rules that have been set forth by the Queen, ensuring that she will take what she wears as queen seriously.
Queen Elizabeth Seems To Approve
Though we (obviously) don't know Kate personally, Queen Elizabeth does, and as far as we can tell, she's a good judge of character — and she's not about to let anyone off easy. Seeing how much the monarch seems to have loved Kate from day one makes us feel like she's happy she's the woman who will sit beside King William eventually.
She Pays Tribute to Those Who Come Before Her
In particular, we're talking about Princess Diana here, the late mother-in-law she never got to meet. Of course, everyone knows that Kate wears Diana's engagement ring as her own, but she's also been known to follow the traditions that Diana set herself in her life of service and her love for her children.
She's an Amazing Mom
Being a mom of three isn't an easy task, and we say this without also happening to be a member of the royal family who lives under a microscope! Kate has always been so dedicated to Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis, and is an incredibly hands-on mother, despite the royal obligations that she also has to meet.
She Works Hard for the Causes She Cares About
Even before she became a mom, one of the causes that has always been important to Kate has been making sure that children are taken care of and well-educated, and that their parents are given the tools they need to raise them, especially those who are less privileged. Kate works tirelessly for this cause, and it's clear how much it means to her.
She Shares Her Talents to Help People
Case in point: Kate's #HoldStill photography project. Photography has been a longstanding of passion for Kate, and in 2020, she used it to encourage the people of the UK to take photos of what life in lockdown looked like for them, turning it into a contest.
Her Relationship With William
Kate's sweet love story with William has spanned more than 15 years at this point, and despite the ups and downs they've had along the way, their love has never changed. Just as Queen Elizabeth's long relationship with Prince Philip has been a huge part of her legacy, Will having Kate by his side will be a big part of his.
She Truly Cares About People
Whether we're thinking about her family or total strangers, it's clear that Kate truly cares about people, and that's a big part of being queen. She's always doing volunteer work and every time we see her interacting with the public, she looks 100% engaged, which has to be tough considering how many people she meets every day.
She Does Good Deeds Quietly
Though of course a good bit of the service Kate does is publicized for the good of the crown, when something is important to her, she makes it happen — even without looking for recognition. In March 2021, Kate was seen at a memorial for Sarah Everard, a London woman who was murdered while walking home from her friend's house at night. Kate attended without telling anyone she'd be there and without making a scene.
She Looks Great in a Tiara
OK, so this is one of the more shallow reasons Kate will make a good queen, but it still counts! Though the opportunity to wear a tiara doesn't come around all that often, when it does, Kate totally kills it every time. She has earned that tiara by now!
She Commands Respect
It goes without saying that for the monarchy to continue to exist, the people of the UK have to want it to exist, and that means they respect those who are currently reigning. When it comes to Kate, though, that should be no problem — at this point, she seems to be one of the most beloved royals in the family.
Her Public Speaking Skills
Kate was widely criticized for her public speaking when she first became the Duchess of Cambridge, but she has grown leaps and bounds in that department since then. When giving the keynote speech about her Early Years project in March 2021, she knocked it out of the park, and this is a skill that only gets better with more practice.
She's Already an Amazing Duchess
As far as we can tell, Kate is amazing at her job as the Duchess of Cambridge, and it seems like plenty of people agree. This is preparing her to be queen someday (albeit on a smaller scale), and she's already proven that she's able to do the job.
She'll Have Plenty of Years of Experience
2021 will mark Kate's 10th wedding anniversary to William, which means it will also mark 10 years of her job as the Duchess of Cambridge. By the time Will eventually steps up to be king, she'll have even more years under her belt that ensure she's ready to become queen.
She Seems to Love the Job
For a job as all-encompassing as being part of the royal family, it's important to have a passion for it, and it seems like Kate really does. When it's her turn to be queen, there's no doubt in our minds that passion will help her continue to do an amazing job.
