America’s Sweethearts fans were surprised when Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Reece Weaver announced she was retiring from the team, but now, we know her next adventure is going to be a very big one. It’s official: Reece is playing Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway, and she’s calling it a dream come true. As much as she’ll be missed on the team, this does make her decision to walk away make a lot more sense.
Reece’s casting was announced this week.
She shared the big news with a post on Instagram that included a video of her transforming into Roxie Hart.
“Friends!!!!!! Typing this sentence doesn’t even feel real…” she wrote in her caption. “It is the greatest honor and privilege to have the opportunity to join the cast of @chicagomusical as ROXIE HART!!!!!! One of my biggest dreams as a performer was to one day be on Broadway and I cannot believe this dream has come to fruition. I am incredibly grateful to the cast of Chicago and @castingbyarc for believing in me.”
Reece’s run in Chicago begins on September 7 and ends October 18.
Her comments are flooded with messages of congratulations, including one from a fellow reality star who also starred in Chicago, Whitney Leavitt. “I can not wait!” she wrote.
Performing on Broadway is something she said she’s ‘always’ wanted to do.

Reece appeared on CBS Mornings on Tuesday to talk about her new role, and how dance has influenced her theater dreams.
“I started dance at 3 years old,” Reece said. “I have a degree in dance. I went to a performing arts middle school and high school, where I just fell in love with all things arts. I actually did a few musicals growing up in high school.”
She added, “There’s so many iconic people who have played the role of Roxie and an incredible cast. I do think there is a challenge ahead of me, but I’m so honored to be on this journey.”
In June, she revealed she is retiring from the DCC.
Reece shared her decision to walk away from the team after three seasons, though she didn’t offer up any clues about what was coming next for her.
“As I prayerfully step into this next chapter, I find myself right back where I started: excited for what’s ahead, a little scared of the unknown, but filled with the same peace,” she wrote.
It would have been pretty hard for her to star in Chicago during football season, so it makes sense that this was the right time for her to take a step back. How exciting for her!
