King Charles has made it clear that he likes to be the one in the spotlight, and it seems like his oldest son, Prince William, truly is following in his footsteps. A clip from one of his interviews with Prince Harry in their younger years has resurfaced online, and knowing what we know now about the brothers’ relationship behind the scenes, it seems like the animosity between them must have been growing a lot longer than people originally thought. So much side eye!
The interview took place in 2009.

In the clip that was shared by @zandisussex on X and Threads, Will and Harry are both decked out in their Royal Air Force flight suits, talking to a reporter.
“Watch how Willy sneers & puts Harry down at every opportunity,” she wrote in the post. “He bristles at any attention or interest shown in H & clearly doesn’t like Harry shining in any way.”
After watching the footage, she might not be wrong about that. Not only does William seem to be shooting his brother plenty of side eye as he talks, but at one point, he interrupts him while talking about helicopters to tease, “Have you gotten off the ground yet?”
A year later, something similar happened in yet another interview.

The same user shared another video of Harry and William being interviewed on camera that was taken a year later in 2010, where they were discussing the FIFA World Cup, which was hosted by South Africa that year.
When it was Harry’s turn to talk, he shared his perspective on the tournament, and William interrupted him again, saying, “you don’t know what you’re talking about, dude.”
In the moment, the comment seemed to roll right off of Harry’s shoulders, but after reading his memoir Spare, it’s clear that little digs like this from his brother really added up over the years.
Royal watchers aren’t surprised at all to see the brothers interacting this way — even back then.
People have strong opinions about William’s behavior in these clips, which they shared in a royals-focused subreddit.
“Harry was such a class act, didn’t buy into it and give it back to Willy. Probably knew if he did big bro would throw a hissy fit,” one person commented.
Another wrote, “The fundamental different between the two of them, evident in those videos and also in their actions now, is that Harry actually wants to serve and help people. William doesn’t. He needs to put on airs about doing it because that’s the job but he doesn’t give an eff about any of them and it shows. Meanwhile Harry, who could completely fade into private life and never show his face again, and who could blame him?!?! Continues to do public work and support causes that matter to him without it being his job to do so.”
