Just a matter of weeks after news broke that Robert Irwin is taken, his new relationship is reportedly concerning his family. According to what a source close to the Irwins told In Touch, Robert’s fam thinks he and girlfriend Ashleigh Scully are moving way too fast and need to slow things down a bit — especially since Robert is supposedly inexperienced in the relationship department.
Robert and Ashleigh’s relationship is still very new.
News of Robert and Ashleigh’s relationship broke in June, when a source told Us Weekly that after more than two years of living the single life, Robert had begun dating the wildlife photographer. Knowing his love of nature and animals, it immediately sounded like she could be a good fit for him.
At that point, the insider said that the new couple had been “traveling all over” together for months, and TMZ reported that they had even been spotted together as early as March, when Ashleigh joined him on the set of his new show, Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro.
His family loves Ashleigh, but the speed of their relationship is reportedly concerning to them.
A source claiming to be close to Terri, his mom, and Bindi, his sister, said that the family’s problem isn’t with Ashleigh — it’s the way Robert’s handling their new romance.
“They think she seems lovely and can completely understand why he’s so taken with her,” the source said. “Their concern is more that he’s already racing ahead and making all sorts of plans when the relationship is still very new.”
Now, Robert’s “talking about involving Ashleigh in every aspect of his life,” which does sound a bit fast for a couple who’s been together since March (as far as we know, anyway).
They think he should slow things down a little.
The moves Robert is reportedly making with Ashleigh sound a lot like things that someone who’s already planning for a long term future would be doing, like “spending time at the [Australia] zoo, getting to know the family business and becoming part of the wider Irwin world.”
Apparently, Robert “hasn’t had a huge amount of serious relationship experience, so when he falls for someone, he tends to throw himself in with both feet.”
They don’t seem to be hoping for a breakup — just that he would take a step back for a second and breathe.
“They’re thrilled to see him happy and would never want to dampen his enthusiasm,” the insider said. “But they do think he needs to cool his jets a little.”
The excitement over a new relationship is always so exciting, but we’d hate to see Robert get hurt! And with his newfound DWTS fame, there’s no doubt he’s going to be pretty busy in the year ahead.
