The way the royal family eats will forever be different from the way the rest of us non-royals eat. As normal as Kate Middleton tries to keep her kids' childhoods, nothing changes the fact that they are the children of the future king of England — and that means that even if their mom personally bakes their birthday cakes, they're likely receiving much fancier, professionally prepared and served meals than most other kids their age.
Knowing all of the traditions and etiquette around the royals and food really makes us wonder what they like. What is Queen Elizabeth's favorite dessert? What does Prince William like to eat for breakfast? We have so many questions!
Fortunately, the fact that they're royals means we have plenty of that info floating around out there somewhere — including William's favorite type of cheese. Read on for the answers to all of your royal-related food questions.
William's Favorite Cheese

While visiting Abergavenny Market in Wales in March 2022, Nicky Hurst, a worker at a cheese counter, told People that the Duke of Cambridge is a fan of a rare type of Swiss cheese.
"I asked William what his favorite was, and he said he liked a really rare Swiss called Kaltbach," he said. "And I said, 'Here's some!' He was really surprised and said, 'I didn't expect you to have that!'"
Royal Breakfast Foods
According to Hello! magazine, the Duchess of Cambridge eats oatmeal for breakfast every morning, though that's not what's on the menu for George, Charlotte, and Louis.
"She mentioned to three of the children that her own children enjoy apples and cereal in the morning, which sparked a conversation with the children about their own preference of fruits," a school manager Kate met with in January 2020 told Today.com (via Hello!).
Queen Elizabeth's Special Burger
There's a burger Queen Elizabeth loves so much that they've even named it after her! Called the Ma'amburger, which was created and delivered to her by Foodhub, it includes two patties and is topped with cranberries instead of ketchup. Metro reported that she chooses to eat her burgers without the bun.
The Cambridge Kids' Favorite Dinner
Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis might be growing up royal, but their tastes in food are actually pretty similar to a lot of other kids: cheesy pasta is a favorite. Not only do they love to eat it, but they also love to help Kate make it.
"One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff," Ivy Learning Trust chief Matthew Kleiner-Mann told People after Kate visited with him in 2019.
Charlotte's Favorite Snack
At the same event, Kate revealed that Charlotte has an interesting taste in snacks that a lot of other kids her age aren't into: olives. We definitely wouldn't have predicted that, but we have to give Charlotte credit for being so adventurous with her palate!
Prince Charles' Favorite Fruit

According to what palace chef Darren McGrady revealed in the documentary Serving Royals: Inside the Firm (via The News), Prince Charles loves plums so much he eats them for breakfast every morning.
"The instruction was to put two plums and a little juice into the bowl and send it into him for breakfast," Darren said. "I'd send in two plums and he would take one so it would come back out after breakfast and I'd put the other plum back into the jar and save it. One morning I thought, 'Ok, he only eats one for breakfast,' so I only put one plum into the bowl and sent it out into the dining room. The attending [waiter] came through and said, 'Can His Royal Highness have two please?' So I had to keep sending two in every morning."
Louis' Favorite Vegetable

Just like older sister Charlotte, Louis also seems to have refined tastes for a young boy. During her appearance on Mary Berry's Christmas special, Kate shared what veggies and other foods her kids eat most.
"We've got carrots, beans, beetroot — a massive favourite — Louis absolutely loves beetroot," she said.
George's Favorite Meal
George doesn't just like cheesy pasta. According to what celebrity chef Aldo Zilli has heard through his conversations with William, his oldest son (and the future king of England) adores spaghetti carbonara. Sounds like he has good taste!
Prince Philip's Favorite Seafood Dish
Chef Darren also shared a recipe with Delish for the late Prince Philip's favorite meal. According to the chef, the Duke of Edinburgh loved salmon coulibiac, which is a dish that is created when "salmon, seasoning, and veg are piled into a generous casing of puff pastry."
Meghan Markle's Favorite Food Groups
As someone who considers herself a foodie, Meghan Markle keeps it pretty simple when it comes to her favorite foods. In fact, as she told Best Health in 2015 — before she was royal — she's all about carbs.
"French fries — I could eat french fries all day. And I love pasta. I love carbs — who doesn't love a carbohydrate?" she said at the time.

The Cambridges' Go-To Meal
During a visit to Pakistan in 2019, Kate revealed that she often makes curry at home for her family, though she has to adjust the spice levels to everyone's preferences.
"It's so hard cooking curry with the family, though," she said, reported People. "The children have a portion with no spice, [William's] is medium, and I quite like it hot. Charlotte is pretty good with heat."
Camilla's Favorite Vegetable
Considering how much Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, loves to garden, it's no surprise that one of her favorite foods is something she can grow herself.
"I tell you what I really like: eating peas straight from the garden," she said in 2013, via The Mirror. "If you take them straight from their pods, they're delicious, really sweet. I take all my grandchildren into the garden, and they spend hours and hours eating peas."
Elizabeth's Favorite Dessert
This is the Queen of England we're talking about, so of course, she has high expectations when it comes to the ingredients used in her desserts. In 2017, chef Darren said the monarch is a big fan of dark chocolate — never milk or white chocolate. Who knew?
Meghan's Home-Cooked Fave
Talking to Good Housekeeping, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she loves a good roast chicken (which is what she was making when Harry popped the question, FYI).
"There is nothing as delicious (or as impressive) as a perfectly roasted chicken," she said. "If you have an Ina Garten–level roasted chicken recipe, it's a game-changer. I bring that to dinner parties and make a lot of friends."
William's Favorite Meal To Cook
Yes, William cooks … if you were wondering. According to Today, when William was judging a charity cooking competition, he said that when it's his turn in the kitchen, he's all about the meat.
He joked: "I like a roast. So a bit of roast chicken or a steak. I like it medium rare. I like it quite alive."
