Prince William is closer to taking over the throne than he’s ever been, and he’s already preparing for the changes he will make when that day comes. And according to one royal insider, it sounds like we can expect for him to make the monarchy look totally different from the way dad King Charles has done so far.
Will and Kate Middleton are said to be leading the shift that is going to modernize the royal family as we know it, and little by little, it appears those changes are already taking place.
Kate and William are already pushing out their long term strategy.
Being that King Charles is both 77 years old and battling cancer, realistically, William will ascend the throne much earlier in life than his dad did, and it seems like he’s not wasting this time he has right now to prepare as they make sure that “the next generation is in view.”
“Kate and William are allowing George to take on more responsibilities,” a source told Us Weekly.
Meanwhile, Will is asserting the powers he does have already (and maybe even some he won’t gain until he’s king himself).
This seems especially true when it comes to the way that William reportedly handled the ex-Prince Andrew situation behind the scenes.
“William was very decisive about how matters should be handled and resolved swiftly,” the source said, with another source adding, “Kate and William have a lot of influence and a voice at the table, but the decision-making is the king.”
Still, the second confirmed that “no power has been relinquished to William,” no matter how supportive Charles is of his son and the king he will be in the future.
They’re trying to build the framework of what the monarchy will look like under Will’s reign.
“They are basically creating their version of what a new monarchy will look like. They are completely modernizing it,” one of the sources said. “There will be changes in terms of how The Firm is run, and antiquated rules will change. There will be more freedom.”
This also includes plans to downsize the monarchy, and royal expert Richard Fitzsimmons told Us Weekly that William “will undoubtedly reassess the use of palaces and the monarchy’s property portfolio. Cost is always an issue.”
William may have to step up sooner than he originally planned.
Charles is doing well for now, but not much is known about his cancer diagnosis (or his prognosis in general) publicly. And as Richard told the outlet, that fact isn’t something that Will and Kate are blind to.
“There is an awareness that not only are the Waleses and their family the obvious future of the monarchy, but that William’s time may come sooner than originally expected,” he said.
When the time does come, people should be ready for Will and Kate to shake things up — hopefully, for the better.
