Fans Are Utterly Roasting Ryan Gosling in Character as Ken After ‘Barbie’ Trailer Drops

Normally, Ryan Gosling is everyone's favorite heartthrob. The 42-year-old actor's latest role, however, has people scratching their heads (and making some pretty hilarious jokes) about why on earth he would ever agree to star in the first live-action Barbie movie. He's getting mocked for everything from his bleach blonde 'do to his resemblance to another flaxen-haired celeb.

Fans don't think Ryan's hair is doing him any favors.

He went bleach blonde to portray Ken, and fans say the look has aged him quite a bit more than it should have.

"I like Ryan Gosling, but [I don't know] why he looks a little too old and dry," one person tweeted. "Not sure if it's because of the hair or tan, but he needed some moisturizer."

Lots of people think he's simply too old for the role of Ken.

Quite a few movie fans tweeted that the Barbie creators should have looked elsewhere for their leading man (mainly somewhere featuring people in their 20s).

"Ryan Gosling is a bit old to be playing Ken, I fear," one critic posted. "I don't know if this was a good movie for 40-year-olds."

Another person agreed, sharing that Margot Robbie seems like a good fit for the Barbie character but Ryan … not so much. "I can't get over how awful Ryan Gosling looks in this Barbie movie," the person wrote. "I thought so before when we saw filming/stills, but now we have a trailer and it's official — he looks like a 40-year-old man with a mid-life crisis. He's too old to be Ken. Margot looks in her mid- to late 20s, a good age for Barbie."

For the record, Margot is 32.

There were plenty of jokes to be made at Ryan's expense.

People did not spare Ryan's feelings on Twitter, with some making sharp jabs at his appearance that went beyond his actual (and perceived) age. "Yea, Ryan Gosling looks old," one person tweeted. "Whatever, who cares. He also looks as dumb as doornails, so it works out."

Ouch!

Ryan also drew comparisons to another famous blonde.

Tons of people feel that Ryan bears a striking resemblance to a famous talk show host.

"Been sitting on this for a minute because saying it out loud makes it too real and upsetting, but that first image of Ryan Gosling as Ken is actually Ellen DeGeneres," one fan tweeted.

Although we can see some similarities in the hair and wardrobe, we really do think the resemblance stops there.

After all, he is essentially playing the real-life version of a toy most of us had growing up. We don't think there are really any rules when it comes to how old or young he should look, as long as he embodies the colorful perfection that is Ken. Based on the trailer, we think he nailed it — wrinkles and all.
