Nearly one month after former Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte’s wife announced that she filed for divorce, their split is getting a bit messier. On Friday, Kayla Lochte shared a social media post that hinted at a “betrayal” between her and her estranged husband, making fans even more curious about what really went wrong behind the scenes in their marriage that she decided to end it after seven years.
Kayla shared ‘reminders’ she needs at this time.
In a post she shared on Instagram on June 27, 2025, Kayla included several selfies with reminders she’s been giving herself written over them in text, encouraging her fans to save what they need to hear.
One of the reminders read, “you’re stepping into the best chapter of your life – you just have to heal first.” Another read, “divorce isn’t the end of my story. It’s the beginning of my rebirth.”
One of these reminders seemed to stick out among the rest.
One of the slides that Kayla included seemed to hint at some type of infidelity: “Sometimes God allows the betrayal … because it leads to the breakthrough.”
She didn’t expand on what she means by that, but adding that sentiment to the other hints she’s made so far, it certainly seems like Ryan is at fault for their split – according to Kayla, at least.
Kayla confirmed that she filed for divorce on June 4.
In a statement that Kayla shared on Instagram on June 4, she confirmed that her marriage to Ryan had come to an end.
“Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,” she wrote at the time. “I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing – not from fresh, open wounds.”
She went on to call leaving her marriage “an act of love.”
“Sometimes we face trials we didn’t choose or see coming. And in those moments, we’re forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future,” she continued in her post. “I’ve come to the understanding that staying isn’t always the most loving decision someone can make.”
She had actually filed for divorce months earlier.
According to People, Kayla filed for divorce on March 26, 2025, so it certainly does seem like she gave herself time to process before sharing the big development with the world.
Kayla and Ryan share three children: Caiden, 8, Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2.
