Of all the Hollywood couples, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are one of our favorites. They have the best sense of humor, and they're always trolling each other on social media. It's lighthearted and hilarious and so fun to watch.
The trolling seems to have begun back in 2016, when Ryan first poked fun at Blake on her birthday. Over the years, it's expanded beyond just birthday posts and into all kinds of social media trolling. One time, Blake even unfollowed Ryan on Instagram.
The duo has been married since 2012, so after nearly a decade of wedded bliss, it only makes sense that they'd need something to keep the relationship spicy. Gently poking fun at one another is not only entertaining to the fans, but it keeps things fun between the two of them as well. We love when celebs can take a joke.
When Ryan Wished Billy Ray Cyrus Happy Birthday
To be fair, both Billy Ray and Blake have birthdays on August 25, but Ryan made his wife an afterthought in this jokey tweet. "Just want to wish Billy Ray Cyrus the most special, magical birthday ever. I love you with all my heart," Ryan wrote, adding, "Also, Happy Birthday to my wife." This appears to be the first instance of what would become an annual birthday prank tradition.
When Blake Praised John Legend
In 2017, Ryan was honored as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. But Blake joked that she was way more interested in John Legend, who performed at the event. She snapped a photo of Ryan standing in front of the stage and captioned it, "Congratulations to the most influential person in my life. The best man I know. You deserve this @time 100 honor. If only my husband wasn't blocking you in this shot. I'm so sorry @johnlegend."
When He Cropped Her Out on Her Birthday
For Blake's birthday in 2017, Ryan posted a sweet photo of him and his wife on Instagram. "Happy Birthday to my amazing wife," he wrote in the caption. It would have been the perfect birthday tribute — except for the fact that Ryan cropped the photo so only half of Blake's face was showing. Another classic troll from the Deadpool star.
And Then She Cropped Him Out on His
Don't worry, though. Blake got him back two months later on Ryan's birthday. "Happy birthday, baby," she wrote when she tweeted a picture of Ryan Reynolds. Like he did to her, Blake cropped the picture so half his face was showing, and then most of the photo was dominated by another Ryan — Ryan Gosling.
He Joked That He'd Never Met Blake
In October 2017, Ryan Instagrammed a photo of him and Blake at a movie premiere and wrote in the caption that it was so nice to see her — well, meet her. "I married my wife online, so it was nice to finally meet her in person," he joked. We don't know how he comes up with this stuff, but we love it.
When He Posted This #NoFilter Photo
Blake definitely doesn't look her best in this snap, but that was the point. She was in character for her movie the Rhythm Section, in which she played a woman who struggles after the death of her loved ones. But Ryan never misses a moment to gently poke fun at his wife, so he posted this on-set shot and captioned it "#nofilter."
A Slideshow of Unflattering Photos
In fact, it turns out that Ryan's got a ton of unflattering photos of Blake on his phone. For her birthday in 2019, he posted a gallery of pics on Instagram. Most of them featured Blake with her eyes closed or making a funny face, and all of them were absolutely hilarious. Blake has such a good sense of humor, always putting up with this — and on her birthday, no less!
She Has Unflattering Photos of Him, Too
Perhaps Blake has such a good sense of humor about the whole thing because she also likes to poke fun. For Ryan's birthday in 2019, she posted an unflattering snap of him as well. "I picked a good one. Happy birthday," she captioned this photo of her picking Ryan's nose. The couple who jokes together stays together, right?
When She Unfollowed Him on Instagram
As part of the promotion for her movie A Simple Favor, Blake deleted all her Instagram photos and unfollowed everyone. It was a nod to how her character disappears in the film. But since one of the people she unfollowed was her husband, he had a lot to say. "It definitely stings," Ryan joked. "It's a terrible way to find out that I've been kicked out of the house, to be honest. Absolutely terrible. I don't know where rage like that comes from."
When She Said She Had Secrets
Ryan tried to get Blake to tell him the big reveal of A Simple Favor so he could know before everyone else. "You can tell me. We're married. You once drove me to the hospital when you were giving birth. So, what the f— happened to Emily?" he asked.
But she wasn't spoiling anything. "Oh darling, of all the secrets I'm keeping from you, this should be the LEAST of your concerns … trust me," she quipped on Twitter.
Blake Joked She Wasn't Proud of Ryan
When the duo hit the red carpet for the premiere of A Quiet Place, Blake looked stunning in a leather dress and an intricate braided ponytail. Turns out, she was just as into her look as we were. She later Instagrammed a pic of her and Ryan on the red carpet and wrote, "If there's one thing I'm infinitely proud of in this picture, it's the incredible hair styling that I did on myself." No mention of Ryan — LOL.
When He Listed Who He'd Save in a Fire
Blake commissioned a piece of art for Ryan that highlighted his childhood home and first job as a paperboy. Ryan loved it, perhaps a little too much. "This piece of art is the greatest present my wife has ever given me. It was created by @dannygalieote. If there's ever a fire, I'm grabbing this first. I'll come back for Blake," Ryan joked.
When She Posted His Mini Ponytail
Ryan is an attractive guy, but Blake tried to make him appear less so to legions of fans when she posted a photo of his mini ponytail. "I dare you to forget this every time you see him for the rest of eternity," she wrote on Instagram. In Ryan's defense, this was early in lockdown and we were all bored (and in desperate need of haircuts). It was only a matter of time before Ryan tried giving himself a ponytail.
Blake's Voting Double Entendre
Since Ryan is originally from Canada, 2020 was the first time he was allowed to vote in US elections. Blake joked about it in her Instagram caption, writing: "It was Ryan's first time. He was understandably scared. It all happened so fast. Like, REALLY fast. He wept. I pretended to weep. Then he called all his friends."
And Then Ryan Exposed Her Photoshop Job
Even funnier than Blake's "first time" double entendre was that Ryan posted the same photo, only without Blake's sneaky editing. Turns out, she was barefoot in the picture and standing on her tiptoes. Before she posted, she drew heels on herself. So when Ryan Instagrammed the real picture, everyone knew her silly secret. We love it.
Blake's Favorite Canadian Things
Despite Ryan being from Canada, he's not one of Blake's favorite things from the country. Instead, she listed ice cream, donuts, pie, and dessert from Ask For Luigi's restaurant in Vancouver. "Who did you think I was gonna say??" she teased her followers. Poor Ryan! Blake better expect a doozy of a birthday prank this year in return.
When He Joked About How They Met
Here's the real story of how Blake and Ryan met: during filming on the Green Lantern in 2010. But Ryan recently joked that they had a different meet-up story. "Never could I have predicted anonymous airport bathroom sex would lead to this," he wrote in an otherwise very sweet Mother's Day message. "Either way, I'm lucky to reflect a little of the sunlight you shine on all of us. Happy Mother's Day, my love."
And 'Forgot' That She Was in the Movie
Speaking of the Green Lantern, Ryan watched the movie earlier this year and among his big takeaways was that Blake was, shockingly, in the film! "Hey
@BlakeLively is in this movie!!" he joked. Although he said that it was his first-ever time watching the film, he obviously knows that his wife was in it.
When She Joked About the State of Their Marriage
For Ryan's birthday in 2020, Blake made him what he asked for — pie. But she mocked him every moment for it. "Who is the lost soul who selects birthday PIE," she wrote on Instagram, adding, "What ANIMAL eats their cake (pie) without first blowing out the candles. @vancityreynolds that's who. Happy Birthday. I honestly can't believe we're still married."
And He Responded to Breakup Rumors
Sometimes Ryan also can't believe they're still married. When there were some breakup rumors circulating about them, he took to Twitter to proclaim that he'd actually kinda be OK with that. "I wish. I could use a little 'me time,'" he wrote. Of course, he's kidding. This couple can never split up. They're too perfect together.
