What to Know
Selma Blair was at the center of an unexpected (and reportedly violent) incident aboard a Delta flight to New York City’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The 54-year-old actress allegedly punched and bit members of the flight crew, resulting in injuries to two flight attendants and Selma’s arrest.
The story of the incident doesn’t end there, though. Now that she’s made her first appearance in court after her arrest, Selma has also been accused of getting physical with a police officer and a nurse who were attempting to take charge of the situation.
Selma allegedly became violent during the flight on October 11.
TMZ was the first to report that Selma allegedly bit and punched two crew members on board her flight, with dispatch audio revealing that medical personnel were requested to meet the crew at the gate when it landed for people suffering from minor injuries.
According to what the Port Authority of New York told the outlet, two flight attendants reported injuries with one being transported to a hospital, and Selma was also transported to a hospital after her arrest.
In a statement, Selma’s rep claimed that the actress, who has been open about her battle with MS, experienced a “medical emergency.”
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” said the statement. “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”
She has also been accused of getting aggressive after landing.
Multiple outlets including People reported that Selma allegedly assaulted a police officer and a nurse after getting off of the plane before she was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” said a statement from the airline.
“From the info I’ve got, sounds like there were two, yeah, one flight attendant and one passenger that sustained some minor injuries, a bloody nose as well as some bite marks as well,” said a responder on dispatch audio that was obtained by People. They later added, ‘The disruptive passenger also bashed her head on the bulkhead or something like that.”
She appeared in court on Monday.
On Monday, Selma was arraigned in court, where she was accused of kicking the officer, Maria Suarez, in the face, neck, and chest, and she has reported swelling due to the incident. She has also been accused of assaulting a nurse during her transport to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The nurse, Ashley DeLeo, has been granted a protective order.
The FBI is currently investigating the incident. Selma has since been released on bond, and a source told People that she is also facing federal charges for the incident in the air.
