Shawn Johnson Says 3-Year-Old Son Jett Was ‘Unable To Breathe’ During Paris Olympics Trip

As a former Olympic gymnast herself, it's no surprise that Shawn Johnson and her family have been in Paris for the 2024 Olympic games over the past week, but it hasn't exactly been a dream vacation. During an Instagram Q&A on Tuesday, Shawn opened up about a scary moment that took place during the trip. Her 3-year-old son, Jett, fell ill and was "unable to breathe," which was made even more terrifying because it happened in a foreign country thousands of miles from home.

Shawn explained what happened in her Instagram Stories.

Though Shawn's Instagram Stories on the subject have since expired, according to screenshots captured by People, the mom of three admitted that the most stressful part of their trip was having "sick kids in a foreign country."

And as far as the sickness goes, it sounds like Jett got the worst of it.

Jett's been battling 'severe croup' during their trip.

"Behind the scenes the past week has been a rollercoaster," Shawn wrote. "Jett got a severe case of croup and woke up in the middle of the night (5 nights ago) unable to breathe. It was our scariest incident yet filled with panicked mama calls in a foreign country."

Poor Jett — and poor Shawn!

Fortunately, Jett is doing better now.

The bad news? Shawn's youngest child, Barrett, who was born in December 2023, caught the illness from his big brother.

"He's now on the mend and thriving, but then it hit little man," Shawn continued in the post. "Grateful for Team USA house doctors and locals who have helped us find the care they needed."

They've been making the best of their trip.

It appears the family has been having a blast in Paris despite a few speed bumps, especially where their oldest child, 4-year-old daughter Drew Hazel, is concerned.

They even managed to sneak in a trip to Disneyland Paris, which was likely a major highlight for the kiddos!

Here's hoping the rest of their trip goes smoothly.

It really does seem like an unforgettable trip — though certainly challenging with three little ones, even if they were all healthy the entire time! Still, they're making family memories they'll have forever, and that's what truly counts.
