The year has already just begun, and already, it's bringing surprising celebrity news that we definitely didn't predict! Apparently, Shia LaBeouf is really turning over a new leaf … and that might include a career change for the Transformers actor, who seems to be getting in touch with his spiritual side. Shia has been confirmed into the Catholic church, and now, it sounds like he may even want to become a deacon as his next step. Didn't see this coming!

Shia's church shared photos from his confirmation.

Shia's new church, the Capuchin Franciscans, shared a Facebook post celebrating the star's confirmation, Page Six reported.

"Shia LaBeouf, known for his incredible talent and passion in the entertainment industry, has embarked on a profound spiritual journey that has led him to embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church," the post read. "His decision to fully enter the Church is a testament to his sincere desire to grow in his relationship with God and live out the Gospel values."

The confirmation took place on New Year's Eve.

According to the Catholic News Agency, Shia's confirmation took place at the Old Mission Santa Inés Parish in Solvang, California, which is the same parish where he studied before playing a friar himself in Padre Pio.

Shia grew up Jewish, but it appears his adult journey with his faith has led him somewhere different entirely.

He may have his sights set on becoming a deacon.

According to what Shia's confirmation sponsor, Brother Alexander Rodriguez, told CNA, he's hoping to become a deacon "sometime in the future."

"He just spontaneously said, 'I want to become a deacon,' and he still feels that way," he said.

Speaking to ChurchPOP last year, Shia said he was preparing to make the sacrament by taking classes with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA.

"I'm in RCIA. I'm scheduled to be confirmed in seven months and I hope Bishop [Robert] Barron comes down to confirm me. But we'll see," he said. "I'm in RCIA right now and once a week I get on the horn with Fr. Bobby and we talk shop."

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Shia.

Apparently, there's no limit to what he might have up his sleeve — and it seems like this is a very positive change for Shia so far.

His sexual assault trial involving FKA Twigs, however, is still on the horizon and is set to begin at the end of the year. That could end up derailing his plans.
