Since announcing the end of their four-year marriage a few weeks ago, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have tried to work out the details of their split through the legal system. Things haven’t been going smoothly, and there’s been a lot of back-and-forth in the courts on the custody of their kids, where the divorce proceedings should be held, and all the details in between. The latest development in their divorce proceedings came in the form of a private letter written by Joe and submitted to the courts by Sophie’s legal team.
That private letter is likely to throw a big curveball for Joe.

A letter obtained by Page Six was filed to the courts as part of the former couple’s ongoing court proceedings regarding the custody and living situation for their two children.
The letter, filed by Sophie’s legal team, hits back at Joe’s push to keep their kids in the United States.
After Joe filed for divorce from Sophie, things escalated quickly.

Just days after Jonas submitted legal paperwork to end his marriage, Sophie sued Joe, claiming he was wrongfully keeping their kids from their “habitual” home in England.
In the filings, the paperwork alleges the two had mutually agreed that their “forever home” would be in England. In the suit, Sophie claimed she went to pick up their 3-year-old Willa and a 14-month-old daughter, Delphine, to take them to the UK with her; Joe refused to turn over their passports, according to news outlets.
Joe, however, denied they had agreed to move to the UK, and court filings showed that his kids should remain in the United States since that was their home.
The latest court filing by Sophie’s legal team hits back and might make Joe’s words come back to bite him.
Joe intended to move to the UK with Sophie and raise their daughters there after finding their “forever home” in Wallingford, Oxford, England, according to the letter obtained by Page Six.
He wrote a heartfelt letter to a homeowner on June 16 that he and Sophie were excited to raise their kids on that property.
“When my wife and I decided we were going to spend more time in the UK and search for a permanent home, our daughter expressed three unwavering requirements: having chickens, a pony, and a Wendy house,” Joe wrote in the letter, per Page Six.
“While many of the houses we viewed met this criteria, the moment we turned the corner and caught sight of the charming blue shutters adorning [redacted], we experienced a sense of magic unlike anything we had felt before.”
In the letter, Joe spelled out why that home in the UK was perfect for his family.
“I have been completely charmed by the idea of dropping my children to school on the boat and being able to spend a leisurely afternoon cruising to the pub with friends on my very own boat,” he wrote.
“We could tell that your family have truly loved living here and we can envision our children growing up here and making this our forever home,” Joe continued in the letter.
'I really think Sophie and I will be able to look after [redacted names] and for many years pay homage to the magic you have created here.'
From there, plans appeared to be moving ahead for their move to the UK. They got their forever home in England and sold their home in the United States. They shipped their belongings to the UK. They enrolled their kids in school there.
Just a few months later, however, while the kids were with Joe in the United States while Sophie was filming in the UK, he filed for divorce.
Currently, the couple agreed to an interim consent order, which will temporarily keep their two kids in New York as they determine the terms of their divorce and custody. Sophie and her daughters are staying at Taylor Swift's New York apartment.
