What to Know
If you’ve been keeping up with the latest basketball season, you’ll know it’s a very exciting time for New York Knicks fans because the team is on the cusp of of their first NBA championship in 53 years. With that comes a ton of celebrities and familiar faces sitting courtside watching the games.
Among those people was singer Taylor Swift alongside a few famous girlfriends. In full Taylor fashion, she decided to take things up a notch by sporting some cheeky T-shirts in vibrant Knicks colors with her friends. Their group also really did not care if they turned their excitement levels up to 100 when the game got extra good. Was this all a bit too much for some people because it’s Taylor? But, of course!
Taylor Swift caught some attention this week by hitting up the Knicks game with the Haim sisters.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Taylor Swift decided to catch Game 4 of the NBA finals between the San Antonio Spurs and none other than the New York Knicks. Showing up with a few of the Haim sisters — and they were soon joined by Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: SVU fame — the group were all wearing these fun slogan-style tees that all sports the word ‘Knicks’ in a covert way.
There are a ton of different videos captured from the evening that show Taylor and her friends really getting into the game. There’s cheering, yelling, dancing and clapping in an assortment of different ways and volume levels. Honestly, as far as sports fan behavior goes, it’s all fairly normal.
Naturally, there were some people who absolutely loving seeing this display from Taylor. One person in this Reddit thread said, “Great shirts!! Girls just having fun.” Another person on X shared how they enjoy seeing Taylor being able to get out and do things that the average person gets to do, like enjoy a basketball game. They wrote, “It makes me happy to see her do normal things that we as normal people get to enjoy doing.”
However, not everyone feels this way.
Some on social media are calling her courtside behavior juvenile and too much.
One person reposted a video that was originally shared by Sportsnet of Taylor sitting courtside and enthusiastically showing off her Knicks-themed tee. The individual captioned the video with the words, “she’s pushing 40 and still obsessed with acting like a teenager my god she needs to grow up we’re tired.”
That’s a pretty strong statement to make about someone who is just getting into a sports game in a similar fashion to how men of all ages enjoy various sporting events. Another person chimed in by sharing that same video and stating, “Do not be fooled this woman is from Reading, Pennsylvania!” Which infers that Taylor really has no right to act that excited about the Knicks because she’s not a true blue New Yorker.
Another person in the X thread shared their thoughts. They wrote, “It’s really funny to watch politicians and celebrities pretend to be diehard Knicks fans because they suddenly got good.”
Yikes. It’s really quite alarming to see how Taylor Swift enjoying herself at a basketball game really triggers some people.
Some folks are immediately coming to Taylor’s defense and calling out the blatant sexism here.

As per usual, for as much hate as Taylor was getting, there were a ton of people hopping on social media to come to her defense.
One person on X reposted the one person’s thoughts on Taylor acting like a teenager and said, “being excited and having fun is not “acting like a teenager”, you people are so weird and misogynistic.” Another person in that thread shared, “Like there are plenty of other valid reasons to dislike her.. and they’re mad she’s cheering at a sporting event?? ok.”
There was also plenty of folks on the “she’s pushing 40…” post who felt the need to point out how weird it is to call out Taylor Swift for simply getting hyped during a thrilling basketball game. One person wrote, “What you have to say about all the grown men wearing other men’s jerseys to the game and screaming? Or you just reserve hate for women? Smdh.”
Another individual shared in the X thread, “She’s at a freaking sporting event. If she were a man would you be telling him to grow up?” Another person called out how there’s absolutely no set expiration date on having fun. “I didn’t know there was an expiration date on having fun. We should all be able, throughout our lives, to have something that makes us feel young or full of wonder. You should really take a look inward to see why you’ve lost that,” they wrote.
What are your thoughts? Does it point directly at misogyny and ageism for the ones who are getting angry at watching Taylor Swift behave in the exact same manner as millions of men do at sporting events? Kind of seems like it.
