It can be hard to know whether people are in your orbit for the right reasons when you’re a celebrity, and after being burned in the past, former Teen Mom star Kailyn Lowry isn’t taking any chances. While appearing on Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra‘s Cate & Ty Break It Down podcast, Kailyn opened up about protecting herself in new friendships, which includes requiring anyone who wants to be her pal to sign an NDA first.
Above all, Kailyn wants to protect herself.
On the podcast, Kail explained that she’s not willing to take a risk with new friends after people she thought she could trust sold stories about her to the media.
“I just feel like you don’t know until s— hits the fan. I’m not saying that I’m innocent. I’ve definitely had a hand in whatever the fallout was but to go publicly is next level because truly, my personal life is my business, unfortunately,” she said. “If you f— with my business, my life, my personal life, you’re actually affecting the way I’m able to provide for my children.”
She admitted the NDA does ‘change the dynamic’ in some of her friendships.
Of course, the NDA changes things, but it sounds like the peace of mind that it brings Kail to know her business is safe is worth it.
“I do think that it changed the dynamic and the intentions of the people that I was talking to,” she said on the podcast. “It either didn’t start off authentic and genuine or it turned into something where they wanted to have a following. They wanted to get paid.”
She’s made one exception in the past.
Teen Mom fans will probably remember that Kail and her BFF Becky Hayter went through a rough patch in their friendship years ago, but the way that Becky kept all of her secrets even when they (temporarily) weren’t friends anymore is what convinced her that no NDA is necessary for this particular friend.
“The fact that Becky never went public about it, I feel like we can grow and we can progress and we can rekindle. But if you’ve said anything publicly about me and/or our falling out, I will never speak to you again,” she said on the podcast.
Teen Mom fans are calling her a hypocrite.
On Reddit, people aren’t impressed with Kail’s NDA policy, and some even called her a hypocrite for it.
“But everyone else’s personal business is fair game for her to monetize on her podcasts? Kail never fails to be a giant hypocrite,” one person wrote.
Another fan commented, “Kail: you and your kids personal life has been all over the Internet for 16 years. You have blasted the personal lives of friends and lovers without their consent for years. For money.”
