Some celebrities have over-the-top, maze-like homes that stretch out forever, and we ain't even gonna lie: If we had their kind of money, we might buy one as well, and maybe even buy a skateboard just to get from one end to the other. Then again, other celebrities — like The Weeknd — prefer more streamlined houses, and those are just as charming, and sometimes, just as luxurious, though in a low-key way. The Canadian singer has just put his home in the exclusive Hidden Hills enclave of Los Angeles, on the market for $24.99 million, and it's a mansion that manages to look accessible and spectacular at the same time.
The Weeknd moved into the home in 2016, after buying it for $19.995 million. Situated in the country-like neighborhood that is also home to Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West — as well as Drake, and Miley Cyrus — it has seven bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. Who is using all those bathrooms, y'all wonder? We can only imagine that this was a house meant to entertain many, many, many party guests. (The poor maids!) The Weeknd has moved on to a $21 million penthouse in the middle of the city, and we can only guess that that's because, in 2020, living in a party house and not being able to throw actual parties, must be horribly lonely.
Nevertheless, whoever is lucky enough to buy his Hidden Hills home will get an amazing pad. It fronts a waterway, and the drive up includes a bridge to cross it. The house itself is beautifully laid out to offer just the right amount of openness (we can see from the front entrance all the way to the pool), and privacy (lots of lovely corners). A huge plus is that it's surrounded in the back by a rolling green hill that offers privacy and one awesome view. So all in all, it must have been bittersweet for The Weeknd to leave it.
Here's a peek inside the house.
High for This ... View
Ladies and gentlemen, our tour begins with an aerial view of The Weeknd's amazing house in the posh Hidden Hills section of Los Angeles. It's clearly a huge house, but it doesn't feel over the top, because of how relatively compact and sleek the modern design is. With its large windows and wood detail on one of the walls, it's serving Aspen-in-LA vibes. Love it.
Grand Entrance
Wow. We weren't really expecting to open the front door and see this. Though the house's facade isn't exactly palatial, the inside of the home is definitely roomy, starting with the foyer. The semi-open plan layout allows visitors to see much of the first floor at once. Bet that came in handy when The Weeknd threw parties at home.
Light-Filled Living Room
Just steps past the foyer is the home's living room, which has a sleek but cozy fireplace that totally needs a huge TV mounted above it. The room also has a great view of the pool and cabana beyond. Are y'all thinking what we're thinking? Move some of the furniture around and — bam! — pool party dance floor.
Chef's Kitchen
The Weeknd once told Rolling Stone that he's a horrible cook, but hey, that's what private chefs are for — as well as significant others apparently — since it's said that ex Selena Gomez used to cook healthy meals for him. We'd be happy just sitting at that stone counter with a glass of orange juice, watching someone else make the meal of our lives in this big but unpretentious kitchen.
Dining Area
With plenty of doors and windows leading out to the lush backyard, this dining area must be beautiful whether it's morning, afternoon, or night. Dining rooms are usually a drag, especially when they are surrounded by walls. An open area like this is so much more friendly. And that fireplace — we'd take dinner by firelight over candlelight any day of the week.
Cozy Movie Room
Huh. Hmm. Well, honestly, this isn't the dopest movie room we've seen in a celeb house. That brown wallpaper isn't exactly the height of style in our book, but still. Look at the size of that screen, which would be enough to make this one of our favorite rooms if we lived in this house, perfect for watching amazing flicks. And it's probably a good nap room, too. It seems pretty dark and quiet.
Gentleman's Office & Library
Honestly, we can't really picture The Weeknd chilling and writing lyrics in here, as dark as his video and music imagery can sometimes be. It's a very formal, very brown room, which is not to say that it isn't nice. We're sure he made many an offer that couldn't be refused in this office/library. That granite fireplace, for example, is a knockout.
Airy Bedroom
We can imagine that there's no way to wake up unhappy in this dreamy bedroom, which has so much light in it, thanks to French doors and large windows. As if that wasn't enough light, there are also overhead spotlights to add extra drama at night. The wide-plank wooden floor is a stunner as well.
Wine Room
Here's a room for 2020 if there ever was one: a fully stocked wine cellar with blue lights for extra zing. We're not saying that we've become round-the-clock wine connoisseurs thanks to virtual schooling and daily "fresh hell" news updates on our feeds, no. We're saying that if we had $24.99 million in our bank account just itching to be spent on a house, this room might just be the deciding factor.
Pool Area for Hot & Cold Days
It's so charming that the singer's house has little fires everywhere — and also, practical. Because as anyone who's ever visited Cali knows, it's hot enough during the day to want a pool in your home, but it can also get a little chilly as the sun goes down. That building in the background, that's the cabana, which has its own living room. All in all, we'd never leave.
Beautiful Outdoor Area
As impressive as the Weeknd's home is from the front, the back is just so beautiful. Perfect pool: check. Soft-looking lawn, with lights embedded at the edges: check. Guest house, one of two on the property: check. This is the ultimate chill spot in the whole house, and one that we're pretty sure The Weeknd returned to on the daily.
Ball Court
No home of a young celeb would be complete without a basketball court, and The Weeknd's soon-to-be former abode is no exception. After all, he's a huge b-ball fan. The court is painted a vibrant shade of red-orange and it looks like the place to be after a night on the town.
Dreamy Bathroom
Don't mind us, we're just wheeling in our suitcases full of clothes, accessories, and makeup because this bathroom has so much, well, room, and we're sure there's a great dressing room around that left corner. The light in there is perfect for making sure every inch of our faces and hair is exactly how it needs to look. Of course, the bathtub is also a highlight.
Master-ful Bedroom
Now this is a bedroom to hunker down in — it even comes with its own living room, complete with couch and lounge chairs and, yup, yet another sleek fireplace. But the most amazing feature is that balcony. Clearly, the doors to it are retractable and disappear into the walls to remove any barrier between the indoors and outdoors. Imagine sleeping in that room, with the night sky and stars well within view.
A View That Thrills
Y'all, this is the view from that master bedroom balcony, OK? How'd y'all like to wake up to that every day? The property seems to stretch all the way up that gorgeous green hill, which is perfect for rolling down from or having a picnic/daydreaming session/nap. On the left hand corner of the picture is one of the guest houses, so even visitors get an unforgettable view.
