There’s a new bachelor on the block! Gerry Turner, 71, will be giving out roses on The Golden Bachelor, the newest series of the popular reality dating franchise.
“It’s never too late to fall in love again,” Turner told Good Morning America.
Gerry is a widower and was married for 43 years to Toni, his high school sweetheart. She died in 2017 only six weeks after she had retired.
“She got robbed,” Gerry told Good Morning America of his late wife. “Every day that goes by, that’s the thought I have.”
The couple has two daughters, who Gerry says encouraged him to sign up to be the Golden Bachelor.
He said he’s looking for a partner who is “high energy,” “fairly competitive,” and “enjoys sports” like pickleball and golf.
“I have her picture on a dresser in my closet,” Gerry said of his late wife.
“Every morning I give her the nod, ‘So what do you think about this?’ For a while it was like I was having a hard time figuring out if she would be OK. But we always told each other, when one of us goes, we want the other one to be happy,” he added.
He’s positive that she’s telling him to “do this.”
The Golden Bachelor will air this fall on ABC and stream on Hulu.
