Over their many years on reality TV, the Duggar family has made it obvious to viewers and fans that they do things differently than the average American family does — and that includes swimming. In regular daily life, the kids who live under Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's roof are expected to adhere to a specific dress code — namely, sleeves and skirts or dresses for girls, and even going swimming doesn't allow room for any exceptions.
That means that when we've seen the Duggars go to the beach or the pool (or even a mud puddle in the backyard), they've been wearing swimwear that could be seen as a bit unconventional. Swim dresses, swim pants, even swim shorts have all been part of the family's water wardrobe (though certain Duggar adults, like Jill Duggar, have been breaking and bending the rules a bit more lately).
Read on for all the times we've seen the Duggars in swimsuits. Lately, it seems like the family is changing with the times, so who knows? Maybe we'll start to see more familiar swimsuits on these kids before we know it.
Jana's Swim Dress
Because many of the Duggar daughters choose to wear skirts and dresses most of the time, that wardrobe requirement doesn't just go away when it comes time to don a swimsuit! Here, Jana is wearing a black swim dress during a day out on the lake — showing way more shoulder than she normally does!
Kendra's Pool Day
This Caldwell family photo is a major throwback — we're talking 2014, which was three years before Kendra Caldwell and Joseph Duggar would get married — and here's Kendra and her sis, Lauren, posing in their swimsuits on the edge of the pool while on vacation in Florida. Matching swim skirts and everything!
Mud Puddle Splashing
How cute are Henry and Spurgeon Seewald, splashing away in mud puddles together like all kids love to do? They are both dressed in swim trunks and rash guards, which are standard for the Duggar boys when it comes to swimsuits. They both look so happy in this video!
Ben & Jessa's Fourth of July
Anyone who's been pregnant in the summer knows that the pool can be such a relief for the heat, so we have a feeling that Jessa Seewald was loving the water this day, while she was pregnant with Spurgeon back in 2015. Still, she made sure she was totally covered up, even while swimming.
Chowing Down in the Pool
It's no surprise that Miss Ivy Jane Seewald loves spending the day in the pool, too! Here, she's cute as can be eating watermelon and enjoying a nice summer day (with plenty of pool toys around!). No need for a skirt, though — she was just dressed in her rash guard suit.
Family Beach Day
In February 2021, Jessa, Ben, and the kids planned a family beach day to hang out in the ocean together when they traveled to Florida for a friend's wedding. Ivy was wearing her typical rash guard while Ben, Henry, and Spurgeon wore matching swim trunks and T-shirts, and Jessa went for the ever popular swim dress.
Addison's Day at the Lake
During Summer 2020, Kendra, Joe, their kids, and some of the other younger Duggars all joined the Caldwell fam for a day out on the lake, riding around on a boat. Addison beat the heat by wearing a rash guard of her own as she sat in a basket on board with tons of toys to play with.
Jill & Derick Hit the Pool
Though this photo was taken in 2018, before Jill Dillard really began to rebel, from what we can see, she was already breaking Duggar dress code with this swimsuit! Is that a tank top she's wearing? Regardless, she looks great, and she and the boys seem to be having so much fun.

In the summer of 2020, Jill partnered with a modest swimwear brand to show off some of their suits, and that she definitely did! Though this skirt and top bathing suit is more conservative than what a lot of people wear at the beach, it was still a bit more out-there than what Jim Bob and Michelle would have her wear.

As Jill was modeling her swimsuits, she also showed off a version that came with a tank top and pants — and honestly, we're amazed pants like this exist and that it's possible to go swimming in them!

Jill also took the opportunity to show off this outfit, which came with shorts instead of pants or a skirt. Given that Jill is probably the only member of her family who actually does wear shorts in public, this one wasn't too much of a stretch!
Totally Floral
When Jill, Derick, and their kids took a family beach vacation in October 2020, Jill brought plenty of swimsuits to switch things up! Here, during their pool day, she wore a tank top-style top with shorts that were much shorter than Duggar dress code would allow!
Stripes at the Beach
On another day during Jill and Derick's 2020 family beach vacation, Jill opted for a striped tank top suit. We didn't get to see much of it in her YouTube vlog, but we definitely have to applaud her for setting her own boundaries, even when it comes to swimwear.

It's been a minute since Jennifer Duggar was this small, so this is major throwback, but it's a good example of the kind of swimsuits the girls in the Duggar fam wore anytime they were going to play in water. Hey, at least it's easier to move in than a dress!
