Plenty of moms know mom-shaming comes with the territory of being a parent. When it comes to celebrity moms, the shaming can be even worse — and in many cases, can happen before their babies are even born. Plenty of pregnant celebs have had to deal with criticism about their pregnancy, their plans for their children after they're born, and just about everything in between.
But when people choose to mom-shame, they should definitely be prepared for the consequences, which many times means getting publicly called out. Plenty of celeb moms don't hold back when it comes to defending themselves, and stars like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson have made sure to let everyone know what they're not OK with. Read on for pregnant celebs who have clapped back at their mom-shamers before they gave birth.
April Love Geary
When model April Love Geary was pregnant with her son, Luca, who she shares with Robin Thicke, she posted this nude maternity photo she'd taken herself in her bathroom mirror. Of course, someone had to comment and tell her that her nude body is for her husband only. But she responded, "No man owns MY body," reports Us Weekly.
Brittany Cartwright
When Vanderpump Rules star Brittany Cartwright was 16 weeks pregnant in early November 2020, people left her a lot of comments on Instagram about the size of her bump. But it didn't take long for Brittany to take to her Instagram Story to set the record straight on what she thinks about that kind of criticism.
"Some of y'all are just sad," she said. "And I wish you happiness someday. I am happy and healthy and I'm going to enjoy my pregnancy no matter what the trolls say."
Paola Mayfield
When 90 Day Fiancé star Paola Mayfield posted this photo with her dog, she immediately got a lot of admonishing comments about having a pit bull while pregnant because it could be dangerous. But Paola wasted no time shutting that down by clarifying in a comment, "My dog isn't a pitbull she is a hound mix and she is the sweetest dog."
Katie Lee Biegel
When celebrity chef and The Kitchen host Katie Lee Biegel was pregnant with her first child in 2020, she shared an Instagram DM on her story revealing that someone had hinted she should be breastfeeding when they saw she bought a bottle sterilizer. "Haven’t even given birth yet, and I’m already being mom-shamed for posting a bottle sterilizer," she wrote.
Blac Chyna
When Blac Chyna was still with Rob Kardashian — and awaiting the arrival of their daughter, Dream — she hit back at shamers who told her she was dressing too casually while pregnant. "To all you people out here with negative comments and insecure words (obviously because you have nothing else to do but criticize the next) I AM HAVING A BABY!" she wrote on Instagram. "Exactly what do you expect to see?! If I walked out in makeup and heels everyday to be beautiful to your means I WOULD BE MISERABLE AND UNHAPPY which are two vibes I refuse to transfer to my little one."
Tori Roloff
Little People, Big World star Tori Roloff called out someone who messaged her on Instagram, talking about her body while she was pregnant with her daughter, Lilah.
According to Us Weekly, she wrote back on her Instagram Story: "I can not believe women talk to other women like this. Calling me fat and unhealthy is the most disgusting thing ever. Comparing me to others is so detrimental. If you want me to be healthy for my family you should be lifting me up not tearing me down. GTFO. I'm pregnant and myself and baby girl are healthy as can be."
Pink
Going all the way back to Pink's last pregnancy in 2016, she got some definite backlash when she shared that she was drinking coffee. Despite the fact that she specified that it was decaf in her caption — and that many moms out there choose to continue drinking caffeine while pregnant — she still got flak.
Scheana Shay
On an episode of her podcast, Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay shared that she planned to pierce her daughter's ears in the future. Before she could even let the backlash set in, she tried to get ahead of it, saying, "go ahead and judge me."
Tess Holliday
Plus-sized model Tess Holliday definitely had to deal with some backlash when she shared that she was pregnant with her second child. But she took to Facebook to share a lengthy post explaining why she didn't care about what the shamers had to say.
She wrote: "I'm not the first plus size woman in the public eye to have a baby & share it with the world, & I certainly won't be the last. However I'm part of a small minority that's telling you it's okay to not have a perfect baby bump, or not show at all, to be plus size & have a healthy child, & most importantly to find a care provider that doesn't shame you about your size."
Brittany Matthews
In October 2020, Brittany Matthews, who is married to NFL player Patrick Mahomes, clapped back at people who shamed her for working out while she was pregnant — yes, seriously.
Tweeting in response to the criticism she'd been receiving on Instagram, Brittany wrote: "I truly had no idea how many people actually think working out during pregnancy is not good….my oh my. Do your research peeps, there’s lots of new info out."
Cardi B
When Cardi B was pregnant with her daughter, Kulture, she was shamed for the baby shower her family threw for her. But, as always, Cardi wasn't afraid to defend herself. According to Us Weekly, she wrote back on Instagram at the time: "It was beautiful and we was happy. Your mom waited a whole nine months for you to be ugly and a bucket of disappointment."
Hannah Ferrier
After Below Deck star Hannah Ferrier shared this photo of herself drinking out of a wine glass, her followers called her out for drinking while pregnant. Hannah revealed that she was just using the wine glass to drink sparkling water with fruit in it.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson has definitely been shamed for the amount of weight she gained while pregnant, but while talking to CBS in 2017, she shared how that made her feel. "It's like, 'I'm pregnant! How could I be fat-shamed?'" she said at the time. "It's not fair. I deserve a f—ing donut!"
Jillian Harris
Former Bachelorette star Jillian Harris opened up to People about getting shamed for drinking coffee while pregnant — just like Pink!
"I posted a picture of me this morning in the car with a cup of coffee, and then later on I posted another pic of a coffee. All of these people are like 'You shouldn't be drinking so much caffeine.' I stopped drinking alcohol, I stopped partying, I don't do Botox anymore … I'm going to drink my damn coffee!" she told the outlet in 2016.
Kim Kardashian
When Kim was pregnant with her second child, Saint, in 2015, she took to Instagram to share a nude bump photo to shut down haters who claimed that she wasn't actually carrying her child.
"First they said I'm too skinny so I have to be faking it…Now they say I'm too big so I have to be faking it…SMH!" she wrote in her caption. "Some days I'm photographed before I eat & look smaller, some days I've just eaten & I look bigger. It's all a part of the process."
