Tom Cruise Space Movie Canceled After Allegedly Refusing To Ask Donald Trump for a Favor

It seems like even Tom Cruise is going through great lengths to try to avoid President Donald Trump. Though the 63-year-old actor has declined to speak publicly about his political beliefs in recent years, some recent reports suggest that he is not all that eager to interact with the current president. Most recently, Page Six reported that Cruise allegedly no longer plans to film a movie in space, and apparently, it’s because of Trump.

And honestly, Cruise’s apparent desire to avoid Trump is something a lot of people can get behind, even if they’re disappointed that they won’t get to see Cruise’s space movie.

Originally, Cruise was reportedly in talks with NASA and Space X.

In 2020, Deadline reported that the “Mission: Impossible” star’s space film seemed like a real possibility. According to NPR, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine even confirmed the project in a post in 2020, writing, “NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality.”

But according to a recent report from Page Six, things didn’t go as planned because Cruise would also need permission from the federal government.

He allegedly doesn’t want to ask Trump — which, fair enough.

A source recently spoke to Page Six about the project and revealed that Cruise might’ve distanced himself from it because of Trump. “From what I understand, they would need NASA coordination to do the movie, and supposedly Tom Cruise did not want to ask Donald Trump for a favor,” the source claimed. “You’d need permission from the federal government.”

The insider then added, “Tom didn’t want to ask for political reasons.”

Online, people were generally supportive of this decision. “Wow,” one person wrote on Reddit. “I am very, very surprised that I find myself respecting Tom Cruise right now.” At the same time, people have not forgotten about Cruise’s ties to the Church of Scientology, leading them to leave comments like, “Imagine being so repugnant that even a Scientologist doesn’t want to be associated with you ……..”

Some people saw it as yet another reason to have an issue with Trump though. “Add this to the list of reasons why we should hate Trump, prevented cool Tom Cruise space movie from happening,” someone else wrote.

It’s not the first time Cruise has quietly distanced himself from Trump.

Though Cruise tends to be quiet about his political leanings, this recent report reminded people of how he allegedly rejected a Kennedy Center honor earlier this year. According to a report from the Washington Post, Cruise would’ve been recognized as an honoree at the 48th Kennedy Center Honors, but he allegedly “declined because of scheduling conflicts.”

Still, some people wondered if those alleged “scheduling conflicts” had something to do with the current president.
