Trump’s Interaction With Child Athletes in the Oval Office Has People Feeling Deeply Unsettled

Apparently, having Donald Trump around small children is not a good look. That’s what some users on X (formerly Twitter) felt anyway, when someone posted a video of Trump meeting with child athletes in the Oval Office. During the meeting, Trump joked about how often he works out and commended the kids on their athletic abilities. So far so good, right?

Don’t worry, because it got awkward from there. In the clip in question, Trump talks to a little girl about her sport of choice and the sport he can see her excelling at. At face value, it’s totally fine. Take a step back and, according to the X user, you might see a more uncomfy situation.

Trump commented on which sport he can envision one young girl playing.

When Trump held a ceremony to celebrate his plans to revive the Presidential Fitness Test, he did so in the Oval office with Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Education Secretary Linda McMahon present, along with Housing Secretary Scott Turner. There were also kids present. The kids, according to PBS, were there because they play youth sports.

In the clip, a little girl tells Trump she plays volleyball and she has an interest in soccer. When Trump asks her if she smashes the ball and she says she doesn’t, he recommends soccer instead.

“I’m just looking at her, she’d be a great soccer player,” Trump said, holding up his hands as if in assessment of the little girl. In any other situation, it might seem like an innocent comment. But those words, in that order, paired with the hand movement, and in a room made up of many men, it’s just not.

The user who posted the clip on X wrote, “Trump sizes up a young girl with his hands and says, ‘I’m just looking at her.’ This is beyond disgusting and knowing what we know it’s hard to watch.”

Someone commented, “Girl’s body language is very telling: stay back, keep your distance, arms crossed, remain quiet, unresponsive and still. All of it screams: ‘Danger, Predator close.’ Kids’ instincts about people are very fine tuned.”

“The energy of a child bride meeting her new master,” another user commented on the X post. “She’ll always remember this moment and have nightmares about it.”

People joked about Trump being in a room full of kids, given his Epstein connection

According to The New York Times, Trump is mentioned thousands of times in the Epstein Files, and words and phrases related to him are also mentioned thousands of times. Naturally, people believe that Trump and Jeffrey Epstein had a closer friendship than Trump has admitted to. Because of that, the clip of Trump in the Oval Office with kids doesn’t sit right with them.

“Anyone who still supports this man IS a pedophile. Full stop,” someone wrote on X.

During the Oval office ceremony regarding Trump’s plans to adhere to certain, but unspecified, fitness guidelines, Trump spoke about bringing the test, along with competitiveness, back to the United States at the education level for kids and teenagers of all ages.

“We’re bringing it back,” he said. “My administration is working very hard to defend America’s cherished athletic traditions and pass our values of excellence and competitiveness to the next generation.”

Some think the little girl looked scared of Trump.

To say the little girl in the clip from the White House event was actually afraid of Trump might be a stretch. However, from screenshots of the girl’s face with wide eyes and the timid way her voice sounds, some are sure that she felt as uncomfortable speaking to Trump as some people felt watching it.

That, or she just felt uncomfortable being filmed and put on the spot in order to allow Trump to get out some one-liners he was apparently proud of. Either way, it’s an awkward and uncomfortable situation for everyone. Well, except for Trump.
