What to Know
When Donald Trump invites all-women sports teams to the White House, you know it can’t end well. And in a photo that was posted on X of the president posing with the University of Georgia women’s tennis team in celebration of the women’s championship title win, the placement of the players, coaches, and Trump is just a bit off-putting.
Then, elsewhere on X, someone shared a video of the meeting where Trump greeted the male coaches and athletic staff and the female players. It’s kind of what you would expect from Trump, given his various misogynistic sound bites from over the years that no one can really deny. But it was a bit horrendous nonetheless.

In the photo, Trump stands in the center, flanked on either side by male coaches and members of the University of Georgia’s athletic department. In the back, you can see the female players from the team. You know, the team that is being celebrated for its athletic success. But apparently shoving them in the background and bringing the men to the foreground is how Trump applauds them.
“This is absolutely disgusting,” someone commented on X. “Very telling indeed and shameful.”
A user also joked, “Did they donate their trophy to him? No? That’s why they are standing in back. If you want Trump to treat you nicely, you have to give him something shiny.”
Another person pointed out, however, “Mind you, I bet many of the women would have been uncomfortable with many of those particular men standing behind them!”
Someone else added, “That was on purpose. Trump, Repubs, and the Christian Nationalists hate women. That’s OK, we women hate them.”
After other users tried to approach the photo in a way that applauds Trump for inviting the women to the White House, some people clapped back at them to point out how wrong they feel the placement of everyone in the picture is.
“This photo is getting major pushback and supporters of Trump on this thread are acting like this is normal, glorifying men who didn’t step on the court rather than the women who actually played and won,” an X user wrote in the thread.
The video of the meeting with Trump is even worse.

Just in case anyone wants to point out the “bright side” or “positive note” of Trump meeting the women’s tennis team, the video of the interaction doesn’t really help his case. In the video, Trump greets the male staff and shakes hands. When he greets the women, however, he gives them a little wave and makes no move to shake any of their hands.
When that was shared on X, someone responded to it immediately to point out literally everything wrong with the video.
“Yes, let’s put the women all the way in the back and let’s not shake their hand,” they wrote. “Pathetic. No idea why these women would ever want to go to this White House with the idiot running it.”
Most of the users who responded to the video are in the same camp of the users who shared their outrage with the picture that was posted.
“So he congratulates the Georgia women’s tennis team by shaking hands with the men in front of them and not shaking the hands of any of the actual athletes?” Another person wrote. “Dear God, you people are clueless.”
The men were also called for all dressing alike.

It should also be noted that the men are all in suits with red ties. Someone commented on the X post of the photo with, “Were they explicitly told to all dress alike? It looks stupid.” The suits, at least, differ slightly from one another, with the suits in grey and dark blue, but the look of the men with Trump’s own suit with a red tie makes the women in the background look even more like an afterthought.
