What to Know
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has not become a hit reality television show for no reason. The success of the show can largely be attributed to the cast that’s filled with interesting and complex women, including 32-year-old, Whitney Leavitt. After making her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago in early February, 2026, Whitney has been doing the rounds to promote the show and sat down for an interview with Ziwe that was released on February 17, 2026. In the interview, Whitney addressed the controversial TikTok video she posted in December, 2021, that caused some major backlash for the multi-hypenate star.
In an interview with Ziwe, Whitney Leavitt addresses the infamous TikTok video she posted that was met with backlash.
Ziwe would not be the interviewer that she is if she didn’t ask The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star about a certain TikTok that got the internet and reality TV fans completely buzzing. Ziwe started her line of questioning in regards to the social media video with these words, “What’s wrong with you?”
The reality TV star replied honestly by saying, “A lot of things are wrong with me.” After a very long pause, in which she was probably searching for the right words, “I will say, just to clear the air, that I definitely did not do that for clout. Definitely wanted sympathy.”
The TikTok video that Whitney is referencing is one that was posted in December, 2021, which was recorded when her then-newborn son, Liam, was in the hospital battling RSV, per People. After she posted the video to social media, which showed the reality TV star dancing, she was criticized for her “seemingly carefree behavior” while her baby was in the hospital, per the magazine.
There appears to be more to this story besides just dancing in a hospital room though.
The reality TV star explains that it all took place during a difficult transitional time in her life.
During a scene on The Secret Mormon Lives of Mormon Wives that aired in the fall of 2024, when Whitney was discussing her insecurities around posting the TikTok video during a time when her newborn son was so sick, she explained to to her costar, Taylor Frankie Paul, that “the first couple of days were scary, but he was getting better. So I’m thinking let’s do something fun and I made a video,” per People.
Whitney explained to Ziwe that she was stuck “in a 500 square foot hospital room,” and she “had just given birth,” which suggests that perhaps she wasn’t in the best headspace when she decided to make and post the video to social media.
To make further light of the situation, Ziwe then asked the Broadway star if Whitney could teach her the now infamous dance, which led to some giggles and impromptu dance moves between the two women. Honestly, we love to see it!
Ziwe couldn’t help but ask another hard-hitting question about Whitney’s political beliefs.
If there’s one thing Ziwe does not shy away from, it’s making people squirm a little bit when they try to explain where they stand politically, especially during this climate. “There’s no way that we can know for sure because you’re from Utah, but are you Republican?” Ziwe asked her guest.
Whitney tried to shuffle herself somewhere in the middle as she replied, “Oh, wow. Can I be, like, in between?” She goes on to explain that she “grew up in a very strong Republican environment, but there are also … things [she likes] on the liberal side.” Okay, it sounds like you’re going to be a bit of a fencesitter, Whitney.
Ziwe simply couldn’t help herself after Whitney’s very long-winded response as she hit her with, “That answer took too long for it not to be a yes.” How can you not love her sarcasm and wicked sense of humor?
