‘Golden Bachelor’ Couple Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist Reveal the Real Reason for Divorce

Fans watched Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist fall in love on the Golden Bachelor last year, but just three months after the couple tied the knot, the two are going their separate ways. Though reality TV love stories don't always last, many fans were surprised that theirs came to an end so soon. And now, in a brand-new interview, Gerry and Theresa are explaining exactly why they've decided to get a divorce.

The couple announced their split on April 12.

Talking to Good Morning America on Friday, Gerry and Teresa shared the big news with viewers.

"Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we've looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and – and we've kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it's probably time for us to – dissolve our marriage," Gerry said.

It sounds like Gerry and Theresa couldn't agree on where to live.

With their families all over the country, Gerry and Theresa simply weren't able to agree on a home base after they got married in at TV wedding in January.

"We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision," Theresa told Good Morning America.

The breakup may have had something to do with Theresa's job.

As People pointed out, when the couple appeared on the Dear Shandy podcast at the end of March, Theresa, who works in financial services, admitted that her career had been a "hurdle" in their relationship because Gerry is already retired and she plans to work for several more years.

"I guess the difficult part is, I went on to the show to find my partner, and I’ve been retired for a long time. I wanted fun, adventure. I wanted to go and do. So that is the crux of it, right now, is – when does that start?" Gerry said.

At the time, they said they were in a 'long distance relationship.'

"So yeah, until we decide on a place to really live, then I can really make a big decision to say, ‘OK, we’re going to live in this place or that place.’ And originally, it was South Carolina. We’re still not sure if that’s what it is," Theresa said.

Now, we know they never managed to solve that problem.

Theresa has shared more of her thoughts on their divorce on Instagram.

Alongside an image of a Dr. Seuss quote that reads "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened," Theresa thanked fans for their support.

"It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, something I never expected to happen at this point in my life and I truly thought it was going to last forever," she said. "It turns out, even at the age of 70, you don’t know everything."
