Grab the popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to see what became of your favorite characters from Zoey 101. Paramount+ has finally ordered a reboot of the Nickelodeon hit that starred Jamie Lynn Spears. We're feeling some major 2000s nostalgia right about now!
Production has already begun on the movie.
According to Variety, the stars are already hard at work on filming the movie, which will serve as a sequel to the early aughts hit.
Erin Sanders, who played Quinn Pensky, Sean Flynn, who played Chase Matthews, and Matthew Underwood, who played Logan Reese, are all expected to return.
Additionally, Christopher Massey will reprise his role of Michael Barret, Abby Wilde will once again play Stacey Dillsen, and Jack Salvatore Jr. will return as Mark Del Figgalo.
Fans can expect to catch up on everything that has been going on with the Pacific Coast Academy alumni.
We'll learn exactly what the characters have been doing in the years since the show went off the air, as well as getting a look into what's to come as they all reunite for a wedding.
Filming has begun in North Carolina, and eager fans are expected to have a chance to watch the movie later this year. That's so soon!
Not everyone will make their way back to town for the big wedding, though.
Alexa Nikolas appeared in the first two seasons of the series but says she has no plans to return to her role of Nicole Bristow.
In fact, Alexa will be protesting the film and the network for failing to protect her as a child actor. "Do not support a network that can't even take accountability especially when it comes to children," she tweeted after news of the sequel was released. "That is beyond low … "
Alexa isn't the only one who won't be appearing on-screen.
Although Alexa didn't hold back about her reasoning for staying away from the reboot, other former stars weren't so vocal about why they wouldn't be returning.
Austin Butler and Victoria Justice will both be MIA when the movie drops. We have a hunch Austin is still riding high from his Golden Globe win and has likely moved beyond projects like this.
There's also a bit of an elephant in the room when it comes to the series' star.
Jamie's ongoing feud with her beloved sister Britney Spears has left a bad taste in a lot of peoples' mouths, especially since Britney has personally called her sister out for her role in the star's 13-year long conservatorship.
We have a feeling some people may be trying to avoid being associated with the project because it could receive a lot of backlash from diehard Britney fans.
That being said, there's also going to be a large contingent of fans who are excited about the prospect of catching up with their childhood faves!
