I want to live where R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe used to live. Especially now that it's confirmed he has great taste. And that's apparently what MSNBC host Rachel Maddow was thinking, too!
Rachel Maddow and her partner Susan Mikula just bought Stipe's sweet West Village apartment, which is actually two combined units that make up a whopping 1,325 square feet. Same exact square footage as I have.
Wow, like minds, Rachel, like minds.
The loft apartment with Hudson River views looks so sunny and bright and airy. The pad boasts original hardwood floors, exposed wooden beams, exposed brick, a wood-burning fireplace (that's beautiful, yo!), and a modern windowed kitchen with a breakfast bar. And isn't that the most adorable yellow mini fridge?
Maddow and Mikula can stroll home from dinners near the close-by High Line (which is really lovely) along their beautiful cobble-stoned, tree-lined street. There's even a live-in super (their very own Schneider) and a part-time doorman in the building.
According to Curbed NY, the buy closed at $1.25 million, a little less than Stipe's $1.325 million asking price. I wonder if Maddow reduced her offer after seeing these half-naked bathroom photos Stipe and his friends posted to the Internet.
But actually, I can't believe that ugly bathroom is inside this gorgeous apartment. I'm thinking Stipe took these shenanigan photos elsewhere. And if I were Rachel, I'd dare not think about the dirty things too much but rather all the good dreamy R.E.M. sleep (haha) Stipe got while he lived here on Jane Street.
