When I was little, my favorite room in the house was always the kitchen. I grew up in a family where food was a really big deal, and I can remember the smells wafting from my Nana's kitchen — tomato sauce simmering, meat being sauteed, sausage and peppers, and waffles in the iron. To this day, the main room in my house is always the kitchen.
There is something about the warmth of food straight out of the oven that says loving, right? The living room may be the place where people focus their cleaning efforts when company comes, but it's the kitchen that is the heart of the house.
The kitchens that have meant the most to me over the years have always combined the best of smells, warmth, and color. Is there anything more relaxing and lovely than sitting in a kitchen warmed by baking bread while talking to the people you love?
The kitchen is the place where all good smells and thoughts originate. I do some of my best thinking while kneading bread. There is something so comforting about the way the kitchen appeals to all the senses at once.
The bedroom is my second favorite place to be, of course. I am very comfortable when curled up in my bed with all the people I love piled in as well. But the kitchen is by far my favorite. There is no television for distraction and only the anticipation of delicious foods and good conversation to deal with.
What is your favorite room in the house?
