I didn't grow up loving princesses and all-things pastel, but I've seen most Disney princess films and have absolutely nothing against these cherished characters. My daughter learned to sip juice from a Cinderella cup, and we sometimes read Snow White before bedtime. So, no princess issues for me.
But as a grown woman, I leave the tiara-wearing and princess love to my toddler. So when I found out that one Japanese company named Bellemaison makes sexy Disney-themed lingerie for adult women, I chalked it up to "things I don't understand and never will." But I couldn't help wanting to get another glimpse.
The company's "Disney Fantasy Shop" features four $38 bra and panty options. You can choose among the following princesses: Cinderella, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, or Rapunzel.
I'm pleased to say this isn't at all what I expected. These bras and panties are very pretty and don't scream "Disney Princess." In other words, no photos of Prince Charming or any of the princesses appear on the crotch, thank God.
Still, I find it odd that grown women would look to Disney for sexy fashion inspiration. Or is the point not to be sexy, but to feel like a princess yourself? This lingerie isn't far off from most that you see in stores, so I could understand wearing it, but wouldn't go out of my way to buy it because of the Disney connection.

And I can't help but wonder if many men would be turned on by this lingerie because it was inspired by cartoon characters that are pure as the driven snow. After asking my husband what he would think, he sort of scrunched up his face in horror and told me that if I'd worn it our first time "together," it would probably be our last time together. You'll notice how he didn't say it would totally break the deal.

Did you guys know Cinderella is considered the oldest of the Disney princesses and was 19 when she met the prince? This, technically, should make us all feel better about wearing lingerie inspired by her sweet, idealistic character, right?

The powder-blue hue is spot-on, and lingerie designers even captured the multi-layered look of Cinderella's ballgown dress in this bra and panty set.
Belle from Beauty and the Beast
Belle is probably the most selfless of all the Princesses — she actually agrees to become the Beast's slave in exchange for her father's freedom and then decides her warden isn't so bad after all and falls in love with him. How many of us would be so forgiving?!

Hmm..the color seems a little more mustard than pretty princess canary yellow, but the high-cut panties would probably be flattering on most and the rose detail on the bra is pretty cute.
Aurora from Sleeping Beauty
Poor Aurora has the most tragic story. After mean, but super awesome Queen Maleficent puts a spell on her at birth that will guarantee she dies before turning 16, the girl is saved by a fairy who changes her death sentence to an eternal sleep, which doesn't sound too bad, does it? In order to break the spell entirely, she has to find her one true love. Talk about pressure.

Lots and lots of roses here…from the bra straps to the bra's bottom lining. Perhaps they toned down the pink so this set wouldn't seem too young? What do you think?
Rapunzel
Rapunzel's power came from her blond locks, which apparently measured 70 feet in length. She was used and abused by Mother Gothel, who imprisons her so she can take advantage of the girl's power to keep her looking young and fresh. Rapunzel doesn't escape her tower prison for love — she does so for adventure, which might make her the most kickass Princess on this list.

They certainly got the corset detail of Rapunzel's dress right, but it somehow doesn't translate as well on lingerie. All in all, this set seems a little too dainty and ornate for a modest, pretty cool princess like Rapunzel.
