There are so many things to love about the Halloween season. Obviously, we're totally here for all the delicious candy. Well, except those weird peanut butter flavored taffy things in the orange or black wrappers, where do those even come from? And we're also all about the small thrill of getting a little scared by a spooky movie on a chilly fall night. But we really love the chance to play dress up again with a fun or clever Halloween costume, especially if there is a Halloween party on the horizon!
While we love a good solo costume, especially if it something that is clever or unexpected (and not a sexy nurse, kitten, schoolgirl, or police officer. Yawn. Those are so overdone), we always have to give some bonus points to the couples who double their Halloween fun by coming up with a great couples costume! Every year we see at least a few couples costumes on Instagram or in real life that make us laugh and contemplate stealing the idea for next year. The good news is that we're going to share some of our favorite funny couples costumes a little early, so there is still plenty of time to steal a good idea before Halloween comes this year! The even better news? Some of these costume are ideas are both funny and easy to make. Love that for us all!
Amazon Delivery Person & Boxes
Special delivery! Anyone who has ever gotten the "another package?" side-eye from their partner can appreciate this one. This is the perfect costume to recycle all of those many Amazon boxes that tend to start arriving this time a year (no shame in jump-starting the holiday shopping game!).
Doctor & Vaccine
OK, this one isn't an easy DIY option, but it is pretty funny! A doctor and a vaccine is a perfect pairing to inject (see what we did there?) a little humor into a post-COVID Halloween party. Also, to anyone who thinks this doctor/shot duo looks familiar, yep, that's Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom!
Filter/No Filter
This one is super easy and sure to get laughs! A "filter" and "no filter" costume simply requires a matching outfit and for one half of the pair to be willing to look a bit rumbled, tired, or disheveled. We can totally pull that part off basically any time!
Squid + Game
This is one of those costumes that might take people a minute to understand, but when they do? The laughs begin! Celebrate one of the biggest Netflix hits from last year with a squid and a game costume. But make sure to keep the candy count high and the body count low!
Our Get Along Shirt
Here is a Halloween costume that only costs about $5 and will make people who've seen the "our get along shirt" memes laugh. The only downside is that couples wearing this really do need to plan to get along all night long, because there is a lot of togetherness built into this costume!
Basketball Bump
Here is a funny option for couples who want to show off a belly! The ref plus basketball belly option can work for either a baby bump or, let's be real, a dad bod belly, too! For safety's sake though, we do have to insist on a "no slam dunking" rule.
Tiger King & Tiger
Here's the perfect couple's costume for remembering that early pandemic moment when everyone was totally obsessed with the Tiger King series. We dare anyone to wear this without saying the phrase "I’m never going to financially recover from this" at least once.
Friday Night & Saturday Morning
Here's another couple's costume that mostly requires a matching outfit and a shared sense of humor. As the lovely side of this costume explained it, this look is "When Friday Night Meets Saturday Morning ." Carrying the shoes and the little bit of grass stuck in the torn dress is what makes this!
Bump Ahead
This costume isn't the laugh-out-loud kind of funny, but we do think it could be a really clever way to announce a pregnancy during the Halloween season! This one is also probably fairly easy to talk a costume-reluctant partner into as well, so that can be a win, too!
Netflix & Chill
While we admit that we aren't impressed by the super cliché sexy couples costumes (cheerleader and football player, sexy nun and priest, etc.), we're not against adding a dash of sexiness to an adult costume! This Netflix and chill duo show how to do that in an amusing way.
Tourist & NYC Icon
This is so cute! This tourist and Statue of Liberty idea could work with any other recognizable tourist destination (so easy to customize if finding a Statue of Liberty look is a challenge) and is another low-pressure one for partners who aren't super comfortable going all out in a goofy costume.
Garden & Gardener
Aww, this is sweet and charming! The garden/plant and gardener duo is a fun DIY option that any plant loving couple will likely already have the tools to pull off. We also like that this is one is gender neutral, so either partner can be the plant or the gardener. We'll give bonus points for any couple wearing this who make a burly, bearded dude be a daisy!
Nurse & COVID Test
OK, some people will probably want to add pants to this costume (please add pants if there are going to be kids around!) but we have to admit that the sexy nurse and COVID PCR test costume made us laugh, even if we are normally a little bored by sexy nurse ideas.
Bob Ross & a Happy Tree
Here's what works about this clever costume: If either Bob Ross or the happy little tree get separated from each other during the party, their costumes still make sense individually. But put them together and everyone will instantly get it!
Chicken & the KFC Colonel
This is probably not a costume that our vegan or vegetarian friends would find amusing, but we can't help it — people in chicken costumes are always funny! We don't make the rules. Pairing it with the KFC Colonel Sanders is a perfectly funny, dark twist for Halloween.
Paul Blart & Segway
OK, this is a pairing that could win a best couple's costume prize at our annual Halloween party! This one requires a bit of planning, not only to find the right costume pieces but for the Mall Cop part of the couple to start growing out a mustache to really sell the whole look!
Napoleon Dynamite
It's amazing to realize that the cult favorite movie Napoleon Dynamite is almost 20 years old. The looks from that movie are still instantly recognizable and this Napoleon and Pedro couple costume is just perfect, especially for anyone whose ever really wanted to rock a bolo tie!
