TikTok has evolved from being just a place kids go to create silly dance videos. It is a place with many things for people of all ages and backgrounds, from cool daily hacks, funny animal videos to ones with yummy recipes to travel and restaurant recommendations. But it's also a wonderful place to source some fun and unique date night ideas.
It's hard to get to a date night and take the time to figure out what to do after an exhausting week working, taking are of kids, or all of the above. Yet spending time with your spouse or taking the time to go out and meet someone new is good for the soul. To help make this process easier, we found TikTok's most fun and romantic date night ideas. Pick one for the next date night, or get inspired to create a completely unique idea.
Use the Chooser app to pick date night meals and activities.
TikToker @lex2201 shared a date idea that is possible thanks to an app called Chooser. Chooser has a feature where you can put a thumb on a blank screen but underneath that blankness there are surprise options for anything you need help choosing: Use this to pick the restaurant to visit, the snacks, and the activity.
Buy a kids' crystal-making set and use it.
Take the science project out of the classroom and do it with a new lab partner, in this case your significant other. A STEM project made popular by a few TikTokers, these gem sets allow you to excavate and create new crystals. Head to a toy or craft store and grab a box. Then let the crystallization commence. It's fun and you each might learn something.
Make a 'date ideas' jar.
Do the work on picking dates now to make it easy on you later when date night rolls around and you're blanking on ideas. How? With a date night jar. The craft of making said jar can be a date in itself. Just get a jar and write different date ideas on popsicle sticks to pull from at random. Go a step further like these TikTokers and color code the dates by activity.
Go flower picking.
If the weather is warm, flowers will definitely be blooming. In spring and summer, many farms have flowers on site, but if not, do a quick search for a flower farm near you — such as a tulip or sunflower farm, depending on the time of year. It's a romantic date to pick flowers and bring them home as a souvenir.
Play the Bring Seven Favorite Things game.
This date night is one of this writer's favorites. It's called the Seven Things game (we renamed it that) because the date will be determined by seven questions. Each person needs to bring things that relate to the questions. One example is to bring one thing that reminds them of their childhood. Another is to bring their favorite snack. It'll be funny and sweet to see what the other partner brings to the date.
Have a DIY fondue night.
Foundu makes eating much more fun, because who doesn't love to dip things? Although there are lots of fondue restaurants for this, it's possible to re-create the experience at home. Cut up pieces of fruit and melt different flavors of chocolate, or take it up a notch and go savory with pieces of pretzel or chicken and melt some cheese for dipping.
Make your own candles.
Candle-making shops are becoming more popular across the country, and making one on a date, as a couple, is a fun bonding experience. Dare we say it can even be sensual to watch each other work with melted wax? Plus, you get to go home with the candle you made and light it for a romantic evening afterward.
Visit a craft store and make each other bracelets.
Speaking of crafting, another TikTok couple went to a craft store and made a fun date out of making each other charm bracelets. They purchased beads and picked charms that they thought the other person would like and exchanged them when they were finished. From picking out the charms to actually making them together, it led to a great date activity.
Visit Build-a-Bear and make each other bears.
Build-a-Bear likely brings back memories of a pre-teen or teen you getting excited to make a bear at the famous store known for allowing buyers to make and dress their own stuffed animals. But no matter how old one is, it's still a fun activity and one that TikToker @xoxotrashman shared as a go-to date idea.
Have a DIY paint night.
Paint classes and Sip 'N Paint classes are a huge hit for group activities, and they work well for a date night too. TikToker @joy.ojeda had the idea to have a DIY paint night in the trunk of a car with their partner, along with some wine and snacks. Just pop on a Bob Ross YouTube tutorial and paint away. This activity could even be done at home.
Decorate locks and put them in a place nearby that has that tradition.
This lock date works well for people who live in a place that has a romantic lock fence or for people who are traveling to a place that has one, like Paris' famous lock bridge. Decorate the locks together, secure them in the appropriate location, and come back to see if they are still there after a few years. It's like a romantic time capsule.
Make DIY movie night blanket.
Movie nights can be fun date nights — not just because you get to enjoy a movie together but because of everything else that comes along with that, such as cuddling. Blankets make things cozier, so this TikToker and her beau came up with the idea to make a special date night blanket. Each person picks a fabric from the craft store, then once home, cuts tassels into each side and ties them together.
Do the 'Target/Walmart Date Night Challenge.'
The Walmart or Target Date Night Challenge is one of the most popular TikTok date ideas. It's a fun one for the couples who are more adventurous, and it's really easy. Go to a grocery store and head down the food, game, and activity aisles with your eyes closed and finger pointing. Randomly stop, and whatever your finger is pointing at is what you have to choose.
Construct a romantic movie night fort.
Forts are a universal fun thing, being fun for kids and romantic for adults. It's cozy and private, which is a prime environment for snuggling. (Good news for the "touch" love language couples.) Use pillows and sheets to construct the fort, and once inside watch a movie with a picnic spread with your favorite snacks. Wine or beer is optional!
Go indoor trampolining.
Kids are what comes to mind when you think of indoor trampoline parks, as you've likely taken your kiddos to a birthday party or two there. But think about how fun it'd be without the kids? Just being able to bounce and fall and bounce again with your date. And you can go to dinner after working up an appetite. We promise it's sure to be lots of laughs and fun.
Use the alphabet.
TikTokers love to come up with fun challenges and games, and this one is definitely unique and helpful on the date front. It's called the Alphabet date game, and you use this TikTok vid, or its concept, to help choose a date. Pick a letter, any letter, and then choose your date based on the letter that comes up. If it's a C, then you would go to a restaurant that starts with a "C," for example, or go camping.
Make clay figures.
Making ceramics is a classic date idea. It allows each person to get the creative juices flowing but also leaves room to talk and bond. TikTok came up with the DIY version of this if a ceramics shop isn't easily accessible: Just head to a local craft or toy store and grab some clay there and make creations at home for each other.
Go on a shopping adventure and pick each other's dinner outfit.
This one is definitely scary depending on your partner's fashion sense, or what they think of yours, but it's definitely fun and memorable. Ahead of the date night, go to a store or shopping center and challenge each other to pick out one another's date night outfit for later. You'll have fun shopping together and seeing the full outfit later in the evening.
