Does he or doesn’t he? Trying to figure out if the guy you adore likes you as much as you like him is harder than potty training your cat. Texting your friends with every new bit of relationship info to get a group vote on his level of interest only drives them — and you — crazy (and maxes out your digital plan). Fortunately, there are a few key signs you can look for to see if he’s crushing on you.
He Does a Million Little Things
He runs back upstairs (three flights) to get your phone that you forgot (again), he finds medicine for you when you tweaked your back at spinning class, he hands you a tissue during the finale of Parenthood. All of those little things? Big signs he’s into you.
He Remembers Your Quirky Details
You’re out hanging with friends together. “Hold My Hand” blasts over the speakers. He gives you a wink and sweetly teases about your eternal (yet kind of odd) love for Hootie and the Blowfish. He also remembers your weird penchant for the number 23 and your hatred of papayas. Paying attention to small details like that means the fella is falling for you.
He Sends You a Note
Whether he tacks a short note to your fridge or hides a Hallmark card in your purse, if he takes time to put his thoughts about you on paper, the guy likes you, umm, a lot.
He Calls When He Says He Will (and Other Times Too)
A guy drops you off, gives you a peck, and ends the date with a “Call you in the morning!” Around 9:34 a.m., you’ve already checked your phone four times to see if it’s working. By noon, you wonder if you should file a missing persons report. Is that guy into you? Not so much. A guy who truly digs you will make the effort to ring you when he says he will — and other times too.
You’re His Permanent Plus One
He invites you to the regular Sunday brunch at his aunt’s house. He hopes you can make it to happy hour with his office mates. He asks you to come cheer for him at his weekly baseball game with “The Guys.” If he wants you to meet everyone from his nana to his goldfish, he is genuinely sweet on you.
He Tells You About His Day
You ask “How was your day?” — and he actually tells you. The highs, the lows, the big bits, the small bits. A key indicator of his affection for you is his eagerness to share his thoughts, his dreams, and, yes, what he had for lunch.
He's Your Cheerleader
He's your biggest fan (without the creep factor). He roots for good things to happen for you and is ready to celebrate every accomplishment — and support you at each setback.
He Asks Your Opinion
Hey, does this sweater look okay? I’m thinking about buying a new suit — will you come shopping with me? Do you like the red tie or the blue one? He asks all of these things because your opinion is important to him — which means he’s more than smitten.
How did you know your guy was into you?
Heather Chaet documents her mini parenting successes, epic mommy fails, and everything in between for a plethora (love that word!) of publications and websites such as CafeMom, New York Family, and AdWeek. While her online persona is found at heatherchaet.com, Heather lives in New York City with her film director husband and one insanely curious, cat-obsessed daughter.
