Makeup is a powerful tool to have. An eyeliner might as well be one of those wands in Harry Potter. A pot of concealer is like a pot of gold. Hairspray is a magical mist to keep 'dos in check. What can't we do with a full makeup bag?! Nothing. Makeup can help us look more awake and refreshed, even when we're running on no sleep — and let's be real, we probably are. Although all of this is only true if we know all the ways in which we can use these tools.Â
Mastering makeup can feel intimidating and overwhelming if we're not veterans at it (okay, who taught makeup classes in high school and didn't tell me?). Watching beauty bloggers on Instagram on YouTube can make us feel like we have no idea what we're doing when we open a tube of mascara — or at least, don't know how to fully unleash the power of it.
Well, hath no fear. We scoured the entire Internet and rounded up 50 of the best tips, tricks, hacks, and tutorials to revamp anyone's beauty routine. Looking for contouring tips? We got it. Finding our face shape
In this video, YouTube beauty blogger pixiwoo tells us how to contour specifically for our face shape. It's a great place to start for those who are unsure of how to contour!
Color theory
"Blue-based lipstick creates the instant illusion of whiter teeth," says Crystal Carmen, professional makeup artist and cosmetic formulator. Okay, we know this sounds kind of wild, but stay with us here:Â "The color theory behind it is neat," Carmen continues. "Blue and orange/yellow sit across from each other on the color wheel. Blue tones tend to cancel out orange and yellow tones when close together. What does that mean? The right lipstick shade can make your not-so-whites look oh-so-bright instantly."
Wash up
Bear with me here and imagine a bottle of mouthwash. What color are we seeing? Probably a bright blue, minty green, or vibrant purple, right? Turns out we should opt for red. Celebrity makeup artist Ramy Gafni, author of How to Fake Real Beauty, suggests we "rinse with a red mouthwash (think cinnamon flavor) to enhance the pink in your gums and make teeth appear brighter."

Shiny pout
Want to really shine? Glam expert Anthony Pazos of L.A. Hair suggests looking for glosses with shiny reflective properties like silver. "When photographed in lip gloss with silver shine or pop, it tends to translate almost white on camera, helping teeth look whiter," he explains. "And if you're looking for a natural teeth whitening remedy, try lemon juice and baking soda. Mixed together they act like a powerful teeth-whitening kit."
Beautiful bronzer
Carmen also suggests adding a fake tan glow to the skin to make your teeth really pop. "Using a bronzer to create the illusion of a summer tan will also warm up the skin and contrast against your lighter teeth," she advises.
Concealed lips
"Softly concealing the area around your lips will help your lip shade standout more, creating a more prominent looking point," advises Carmen. "This will help create the illusion of light and make your pearly whites look whiter."
A tad of highlighter
Don't worry, we don't have to commit to Kim K contouring in order to get our teeth looking crisp. "Add highlighter onto the cupidâs bow of lips and below the center of your lower lip to reflect light and brighten your smile," says Gafni.

Smudge Proof Liner
For eyeliner that won't budge no matter what, retrace liquid liner with matching powder applied with an angled brush. VoilĂ . Smudge-proof.

Eyeliner is easy to mess up. To make sure we don't wipe off all of our hard work when we make a tiny mistake, take a note from RawBeautyKristi's book and use concealer to dab on and edit our eyeliner.Â

DIY gel liner
To fix a an eyeliner pencil that just isn't cutting it, heat it up by sticking it in the flame of a lighter for a second or two. It's important to test out the pencil on our arm or hand to make sure it isn't too hot for our precious eyes.
Q-Tips
Harness the power of the Q-Tip when doing eyeliner! As Elessa Jade shows us, just dip it into makeup remover and twist it around the messy eyeliner to clean it up and create sleek lines.
Highlighter is key
"I always highlight the ridges that go from below my nose to my lip with the highlighting side of my COLORCORRECT," says makeup artist Susan Posnick. "The ridges, which tend to disappear with age, keep the face more youthful looking, not to mention making the mouth look sexy!" We're taking notes!
Keeping it cool
Posnick recommends giving our favorite eye cream a little more power by popping it in the fridge. "The cold will help reduce puffiness," she says.
Wake up
Need to look more awake? "Apply light shades of shimmery eyeshadow just under the bottom lashes. It keeps the eyes looking fresh and bright," says Posnick.
Keep it popping
Posnick also suggests white eyeliner or, believe it or not, turquoise or sapphire to make eyes look wide awake and refreshed! "The blues especially will make the whites of your eyes look whiter and brighten your eye color," she says.

Fluttering lashes
Celebrity makeup artist Marni Burton says it's all about the lashes in terms of making the eyes pop to fake like we had a full night of sleep. Falsies can help for a quick fix — they add dimension and volume.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating our skin (gently!) can help it look brighter. It's a great addition to our skincare routine, says Dr. Hadley King, board-certified dermatologist at SKINNEY MedSpa.
Nudist
"Use a nude pencil to line the inside of your lower waterline to take away any telling redness and appear refreshed," says Rebecca Perkins, cofounder and head makeup artist at Rouge New York. Kill two birds with one nude pencil-shaped stone!
Sparkling
Who doesn't want to sparkle? "To brighten up even more, use brightening highlighting powder on the inner corner of the eyes to get a well-rested sparkle," says Perkins.
Dark eyeliner
For those who are loyal to lining their bottom lid with dark eyeliner, try avoiding it to look brighter and more awake. "If youâre tired youâre likely to be blinking a lot … and it will fall into your under eye circles, making them appear even darker," Perkins says.Â
