Jonah A. Berger, the author of the best-seller Contagious: Why Things Catch On and a professor of marketing at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton business school, explained to the Globe why families are increasingly into PJ sets that can be worn by parents, kiddos, and even pets, thanks to social media. "The Instagram-ization of life has made people want to present their families as perfectly organized," Berger said. "Wearing matching clothes is one way to do that."
Beyond Instagram, a 2013 viral video may have something to do with the trend. The Holderness family posted its tribute to "#XMAS JAMMIES," and the vlogging crew quickly attained massive Internet fame — and racked up 18 million views on their video to date. No doubt, they likely inspired other families to jump on the coordinated sleepwear bandwagon.
