Bad wedding stories are painful to hear but even harder to ignore. That's because let's face it, part of us likes taking pleasure in hearing about a major wedding disaster. That is why one partially ruined day is going viral, after a manager at a donut shop shared what happened when the groom's "crazy ex" showed up and seriously flipped out.
The story took off after an anonymous donut shop manager shared a "retail horror story" online -- and it's juicy.
Posting on the Internet forum Retail Hell Underground, the unnamed manager shared that he or she once had a wedding planner call right before closing to see if the store would be willing to stay open for just a little bit longer.
The wedding planner explained that it was an emergency and that her client's cake had been destroyed thanks to a crazy ex crashing the wedding.
The wedding planner begged and said and that she'd be willing to take any of the donuts they had left over. The manager could hear panic in the planner's voice and agreed to keep the doors open. "I said that we were going to close in an hour, but if she could get to the store ASAP, we would work with her," the manager wrote.
The manager gathered the donuts and personalized eclairs as a special touch for the newlyweds.
Weeks later, a couple showed up at the donut shop and asked for the manager by name ... to thank him and explain what happened.
It was the couple from the wedding that the manager had helped fix with his donuts. They had just come back from their honeymoon and wanted to stop in to thank the person who had saved their wedding.
"It was then that I got the full story," the manager wrote. And boy was it a doozy.
After a failed pregnancy lie, the groom's "psycho ex" stormed the wedding, smashed bottles of wine, grabbed the cake, and threw it at the happy couple.
Apparently the ex had been stalking the groom for months, which is how she knew exactly when the wedding was and where to find them. She made her grand entrance by grabbing the cake, chucking it "Hulk" style at the newlyweds, and screaming while smashing wine bottles.
"The cake couldn't be salvaged, since it was a combination of smashed and pelted with broken glass," the manager wrote. "Everyone was stunned in shock at first, but the woman was ultimately restrained by the groomsmen. They called the police, and she was charged with assault, assault with a weapon (from waving around a wine bottle and clocking a groomsman,) and destruction of private property (both from the couple and the venue)."
And the couple even showed the manager some before and after photos. "My whole team got to gather around to see the pictures of what the wedding HAD been and what it became," the manager described.
But in the end, this story had a happy ending because the bride didn't let her husband's "crazy ex" ruin the celebration.
In fact, she even laughed about it — despite her gown being ruined. "The wife, bless her brilliant, warm soul, is laughing and smiling in all the pictures, even with cake and frosting splattered all over her (once) gorgeous dress. (Later shots have her in casual clothes when her mom raided her suitcase so she could take off the dress.)" the manager wrote. "She said it was going to be one of 'those stories' that she's going to laugh about with her kids in years to come. Somebody please find me a wife with a soul that robust and happy!"
